easy, D7500 all the way
( canon shooter here )
Matt, many of us could care less about video. We don’t consider it photography. I just picked up an 80D as a lighter weight backup (w/better DR) to my 7D II and love it! I am going to video the totality and diamond ring on the 21st in Nebraska though 😉
Some would sacrifice the 4K for the efficient autofucos system in the 80D
D7500 all the way for me. D500 if I could stretch a bit more
For non professional work the Nikon D7500, most modern camera, good focus system, amazing low light capabilities, 4K, its simply a well rounded hobbyist camera, if pro work is needed then the Nikon D7200 for the dual SD card body.
Can I take Nikon D 750 or 7200 or canon 6D Ii. Which will be value for money and hassle free. If 750 then which series is problematic. Cost is not factor among these.
Flippy screen, all cross-type af , and canons fantastic dpaf….the d7200 is same price as 80d, and i still think 4k is overrated for “future-proof”, and definitely not needed for good quality video (nevermind the space and processing reqs)..especially for someone just starting out. Better advice: stick with a cheaper body (5600 or t7i/77d/t6i) and spend the money saved on a better lens…the sensors on these “entry” level cameras are more than good enough these days, and if the exposure is correct when taking the photos, dynamic range is more than fine on any of these at base iso.
Problem is 4K is not future proof as there are 8K cameras out now!Next will come 16K and then 32K!!There is no future proofing!
D7200, 4K is overated, the D7200 will support the old Nikon glass and is more than enough camera for most people
Very surprised that your recommend either of the Nikons over the Canon for video especially with Canon’s amazing duel pixel auto focus system and the severe crop when using 4k on the D7500 and time limit plus Nikon’s video focus is pretty pants to say the least. Personally, if it’s a video/stills camera I’d deffo go 80D. If it’s purely for photography, maybe the D7500/D7200.
The best first DSLR is to make the choice to go Mirrorless.
Don’t go for the 5000 series if you can afford 7000…. You will soon see, how the controls, and lack of HSS abilities will hinder you, and your only choice will be to sell it.
If you want 4K, small form factor, and good focusing system, go for the Sony A6500. You have unlimited glass selection (because it works incredibly well with adapted Canon glass), you get EVF, great 4K quality, in body image-stabilization (which is huuuuge) and a small form factor.
If you shoot portraits you get eye detection, if you shoot static scene, you take advantage of the inbuilt stabilization, the autofocus is also good enough for most sports. Stabilized primes is a BIG thing.
When new to photography, he should first decide for the system (brand, sensor size), second for the glass and only at very last for the camera, all depending on budget and what he will shoot
Hi, Matt!
I recently watched one of your videos addressing whether the D7100 & D7200 are good upgrades from the D3300 (as far as image quality goes). You said that the D7100 & D7200 were great cameras to upgrade to because they have more advanced features and a more “professional” body, but coming from the D3300 you won’t see much improvement in image quality because the sensors are pretty much the same. Well… I too own the D3300 and was considering upgrading to the D7200 for the same purpose (better image quality), but if the D7200 won’t help me in that area then “What camera should I be considering” (my budget is $1250 — $1350 max)? PLEASE, respond because I value your opinion greatly.
Even though this is the first DSLR camera, if ever one wishes to become a pro later on, only D7200 has dual card slots.
Professional reviews!
Sir suggest me any good 4k dslr from canon or nikon, for all seasons mostly outdoor activities means better day light photography. Price range $1000-1500. Thanks 👍🏻
I think recommending the 7500 due to 4k is misleading. It’s 4k but kinda missed the boat with it. If you’re looking for 4k video, you should steer clear of Canon or Nikon dslr. However, video work I’d say 80d hands down. Better focusing than the nikons and is ergonomically better in my opinion. Stills, I’d say Nikon all the way due to it’s sharper images and better dynamic range. So as for all around, weigh out which is more important (video or stills) and pick from one of those two I mentioned.
Which one should I pick for Night photography?
Or should I go D610? or some other full frame?
Most TV station are not in 4k. To me 4k is overrated
