D7200 + extra glass
As D3300 have (almost) the same sensor as D7200 and D7500, there might be improvements in many other aspects by upgrading bodies, but not in image quality. if you are still using kit lenses there will be a lot improvement in image quality by just upgrading the lenses. For upgrades for newcomers, sharp lenses WITH IMAGE STABILISATION are recommended. e.g.: Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 EX OS HSM (Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 DC HSM Art is the sharpest but has no stabilisation) for landscape and general purpose use (at dirt cheap price of $369) and should be enough for portrait photography (at its 50mm end) also.
I home quite a few Nikon cameras going back all the way to the film days. I bought two 7200s I own 1D 500 01 D4 and a couple D3‘s. I have seen a few discussions online regarding some of the newer Nikon cameras images having a yellow look to them. I must admit I have noticed this more on the 7200 than other cameras. Thoughts?
D7200 would be my choice if landscapes and portraiture are your main interests. Neither require blazing fast speed and higher resolution is always better for both these subjects. The D7200 purchase would leave some cash for more lenses, heck, you can never have too many lenses now can you! 😃
I would go with the D7200
D7200
I had this exact dilemma two months ago. Going from D3200 to the D7200 or D7500. I ended up with the D7500 because:
– I prefered the deep grip of the D7500
– I shoot Motorsports so the extra 3fps at 14-bit RAW was important
– The flippy touchscreen is lovely to use
In the UK it was around £250 price difference but the above was enough for me to go the D500-Lite. And I love it.
7200 is capable to use autofocus with old lenses, the d7500 can’t
D7200 hands down for portraiture and landscape. D7500 for sports.
Nikon D7200 once again! The 2 memory card slots; more megapixels, battery grip option; ability to use older lenses, cheaper, better LCD screen
D7200 is a must have and the better choice
D7200 and spend more money on good lenses.
I own the D3300. Great beginner camera and was blown away by the increase in quality when paired with the Sigma Art 50. That being said I felt it was time to skip over the 7000 series, D500, and go FF. Bought a factory refurb D750 for $1,200 and can’t wait for it to get here.
I am using D5500. I LOVE this camera. Actually I downshifted to it from SONY FF A7II camera! BUT AF of the D5500 is not that great as I;d like to use. It’s -1EV limit is too small, a stumble in situations where AF is not working on D5500 from time to time… So I want a camera with better AF… I choose from D7200, D7500 and D500. D7200’s greatest downfall for me is it’s fixed screen. I use the tiling screen alot and a REALLY don;t wanna to get a camera with a fixes screen… BUT it has 14.6 stops of DR, something fantastic that D500 and D7500 do not have and it IS useful for me! D500 is too pricey, and a little too heavy, though it’s AF system is astonishing and that really makes it tempting. D7500 looks for me as a sweet spot. I love as it feels in my hands, it’s AF is not the class leading like in D500 but still very capable with good group mode, and it gives usable ISO up to 12800 – more then I’ve ever had… It is really hard to choose….
Neither, go for the D7100.
I’d go for the D7500 unless he’s going pro. If you’re going to get into weddings, that 2nd card slot is a must on the 7200. And, the price difference between the two (7200/7500) on Amazon is negligible. (1 to 200 dollars) The only true upgrade from the 3300 is really, stabilization, and a focusing motor to accommodate older glass. But I don’t think image quality from the sensor will be any better on either. (save video) Easy to gadget lust and buy more than one needs, but if you’re doing what I do, portrait and landscape, it’s pretty hard to justify an upgrade. A good tripod and lenses is really all you need. And if you’re traveling, the D3300 is a no brainer. I’ve had this same dilemma, and have tried mightily to justify an upgrade, but just can’t find one. I have the D5600, (same family) and it really is a great camera, for what I do.
I love your Chanel I am a sport photographer
I like photographing birds & am currently using a D3300 – is the D7500 a better upgrade to consider than the 7200?
I own a D3300 and looking for an upgrade as well. it was a great beginner camera. I use a 50mm 1.8f/stop and a 35mm 1.8 f/stop. My focus is portrait photography. The main problem I have is the autofocusing and the poor low light quality with the d3300.
Will the D7200 be good for these problems?
Certified refurb D7500s are $600 shipped from Nikon authorized sellers on eBay. D7200s are $400 on Facebook market place. What do I do? I kinda want to do astrophotography and landscape photography. I currently have a d3300 but want to finally be able to have auto focus.
