Thumbs up for your t-shirt Tony!
+TonyNorthrup Could you tell me more about old manual lenses, they tend to be cheap and not bad, but are they usable for modern day cameras? What are the pros and cons?
I gotta say, I like the NASA shirts that you wear sometimes, Tony. If you’re ever in Florida, don’t forget to visit the Space Center Visitor Complex.
When I saw the new D7500 it caused me to initially think my D7200 was a bit premature, but now, after watching this video for “ME”, the 7200 was a good purchase. I have been a Nikon user since I bought my Nikon Photomic F2 back in the early 70’s and got real comfortable with Nikon. I will be buying a much better camera in the near future that will primarily be for YouTube videos focusing on Nature and Action as well as a Web Series instrument. I haven’t made my mind up with what brand or kind of camera I will be getting, but this is so exciting for me and I would like to thank Tony (and Chelsea) again for your information. I have purchased two of your resource manuals and they are awesome and I strongly encourage anyone who is serious to subscribe to the “Tony & Chelsea Northrup” channel and if you can, get their materials. remember, that if you find yourself reading the material for more than 4 hours, you may want to consult a physician…….
You left out one point of comparison I’ve seen elsewhere. The battery life is significantly shorter than both the D7200 and D500. At 900 images it’s 200 to 350 less than those other models. I’m honestly not sure who this camera is for. If you are a D7200 shooter this is NOT an upgrade. If you need more your choice is the D500. As best I can figure this is targeted towards new customers or people who are also looking at certain mirrorless cameras and will not mind a few less features and shorter battery life. Still, a confusing offering from Nikon.
The nikon 7500 STILL HAS the autofocus motor. What it doesnt have is the metering lever. It is still compatible with older AF lenses.
The lack of the metering lever will cause some limitations when using really old lenses. But it should be fine in manual mode.
In Nikon defence, haven’t they delivered what we ask for, when the Nikon D7200 was first launched. If Nikon had kept the dual memory slots and the longer battery life. Then Nikon would be selling the Nikon D7500 at $1500.00 dollars or more and we would be discussing who could afford to upgrade and for a couple hundred dollars more would it be better to buy a D500.
This may be easy to answer, but I don’t know because I don’t shoot video with my gear. Why do most DSLR’s shooting video have that jerky missing frame look when panning? Is it the IS in the lenses that causes it? Really enjoy your guys videos.
Ah, hello, only 1 SD card? My d7000 has two. That’s a deal breaker for me.
I was so pumped about the d7500 until I saw how much of downgrade it is from the d7200 which I was originally going to get. I have older lenses and need that focussing motor. Also the d7500 lacks battery life compared to the d7200. Dual card slots is a biggie to me. Again the d7500 lacks. The only thing that i lije about the d7500 is the tilt screen. Ive waited for so long just to see the 7500 a fail in my eyes. Im gonna go with the d7200 or perhaps the d500.
The screw-drive motor still remains!! It’s the Ai (auto indexing) coupling which has been removed.
Does anyone know if the D7500 has the 2 axis horizon like the D500?? Its great for leveling the shot.
I think Tony summed it up perfectly: “… nothing new here… just thrown together from different parts of other cameras…”
D7500 seems to be more about marketing than an update to D7200. One step froward 2 steps back… 2 additional frames per second and 1 stop better ISO performance are not enough compensation for the loss of the 2nd SD card slot, no battery grip connectors and no compatibility with the older lenses. Not to mention lower resolution censor, although newer tech.
D7200 and D500 each occupy a different niche, each with its own strengths and weaknesses and used for different types of photography.
Instead of trying to bridge the gap between D7200 and D500, the smarter update to the D7*** line for Nikon would be to expend on the strengths of the D7200. For example, with the newer sensor technology, they could have increased the resolution to 30MP while keeping the same ISO performance (which BTW wasn’t bad at all, although not nearly as good as D500’s) and also kept the same fps.
I honestly don’t think it was a smart move by Nikon and personally, it makes me glad I made a decision about 2 months ago to switch from Nikon (sold everything including D7200) to the Fuji X-T2 system. By the way, this decision was purely personal and had nothing to do with Nikon or the direction they were taking with their camera updates about which I had no clue at the time.
This review is extremely negative. The 3 MP difference between the D7500 and D7200 is negligible. It does not talk about the fantastic ergonomic body and hand-grip, Metering from the D500, countering flickering in indoor sports lighting, and digital image stabilization, all features that the D7200 does not have!
Thanks Tony for the review of the d7500. However I am interested in the D750 or d810. any thoughts on these. I like the stop action feature built into these cams.
Thanks in advance.
have you guys got a d800/e tutorial?
cheers
Canon the best! Nope, Panasonic the best! Nope, Nikon the best! Nope, Sony the best! Nope, Leica the best! Nope, Olympus the best! Nope..Nope Nope, I’m out
As always a very decent overview to a camera. I have mostly the same Impression. I think the one Card Slot issue is more a Problem for the pros and they will most likely buy D500s. In General I rather think that is still a good offer for most People with ambitions. Elimination of Focus Motor and vertical grip is a bigger setback. Really. May be the Controllers have done a bit too much to make Nikon profitable again.
Thumbs up just for the awesome t-shirt
