I love my 7200… I have some manual lens, and that focus motor is a must…. sure the buffer is a pain… but u get what u pay for
It’s really a shame that Nikon hasn’t been able to come up with a usable autofocus system for video, because the video I get out of my Nikon cameras is stunningly beautiful. I’m continually impressed by how much you can push it around in post (relatively speaking, and considering the format). My ultimate goal is to be able to carry just one camera and set of lenses when I’m doing both video and photography. I’ve just made such a massive investment in Nikon over the years and I *love* the way the photos look and the dynamic range, that it’s difficult for me to switch to Canon or MFT. There is no MFT or Canon camera which can compare with my D800 in terms of color rendition and dynamic range, so I’d have to take a step backward in photography to get great video and I’m at the point where more than 70% of what I do is still photography, but the second that hits 50%, I’m not going to have much choice other than to jump ship to another manufacturer…probably Sony (ack). Currently, Sony just doesn’t have the lenses, so there’s a problem with EVERY manufacturer right now, from my perspective.
Sooooo you are teviewing a camera you have never laid hands on. Ok ……….
Tony is the Colin Cowherd of Photography.
Bought the D7200 last week bcuz I dont do video at all!
the 2 card slots also a big factor in the buy!
I have been using the D7500 for about two weeks, moved up from a D5100. This was an excellent upgrade, from that level. If you have a 7000 series, especially a D7200 don’t get a 7500, as that is a lateral move. Faster shooting, better focus, the 4K video is nice from 1080 on the 5100, and of course, the newer AF-P lenses can be used. Sure it doesn’t have dual ports for SD and QxD, but it’s fine with me.
Great review Tony as always, but it seems like most are bashing the 7500 for what is not, instead of appreciating what it is. Just a thought.
Hi Tony, Bought D7500 in July but on Saturday went to shoot Lord Mayor as he opened a fair but the shutter failed on AP, P&M but fired on Auto but did not auto focus so out of focus images!! so annoyed.
Salut
Looking out for a video having comparison for nikon d7500 vs sony a6300
Hi I just brought Nikon 7500 but I can’t connect to SnapBridge always failed pairing can anyone help me
Another “who is it for”: Astrophotographers will be very interested in the performance of the sensor, the tilting screen for tripod use, and the electronic front curtain shutter, all major upgrades from the D7200.
Am using d7200 if I intended to upgrade it will be towards FX camera
Wish Better camera 7100 ? 7200 ? PlZ help sir
Man, I ordered the D500 over the D7500 to back up my D810 thinking I’d have the best of all worlds, including 4K video. But I failed to watch this first! I don’t shoot much video so I’m thinking the 7500 would’ve been a better choice with the same sensor and higher resolution; let’s just hope the better autofocus is worth it!
Hi Tony, I just bought the D7500, my first DSLR. I will look forward to your in-depth setup post for this camera.
I am a retired still photography enthusiast. I bought a new D5300 a few months ago. This video, like others I have seen, reinforces that I made a good decision. Mind you anything was good since I upgraded from a D80, reliable, but definitely aging.
The D7200 buffer fills to quickly for weddings (even with the 95 pro cards), so I use now the D500, and I will get a second one soon for my video (A camera), right now I use the D7200’s (A and B) at weddings (and D7000’s for C and D) and they are both very good, but the D500 is better in low light.
I use old Nikkor lenses so the D500 was a good choice 🙂
Another good review from Tony, however as he doesn’t wear glasses allow me to add my 2 cents worth. The D500 has a weak 16mm of eye relief making it difficult to see the whole viewfinder with glasses. What good is 100% viewfinder coverage if you cant see the whole screen with glasses on? The D7500 has a somewhat better 18.5mm and the D7200 is the tops of these three at 19.5mm. Now depending this may or may not be an issue for you but before laying out your money on line try and look hands on at one.
Tony or any one here can tell me if I can have long zoom lens like Sigma 150-600 mm on any MFT cameras, mostly looking like for GH4 or GH5 or G85. Please help me, going crazy circles between all brands.
