Upgraded, last year, from D5200 to D7200 for focusing motor, but lost on tiltable screen. But now D7500 has the tiltable screen but no focusing motor. And only one SD card. Will have to stick to D7200. Its very good.
D610 or D7500? (Landscape and Wild life)
I guess Nikon wants us to believe less is better on this dumbed down model, except the jacked up price. More $$$ = less camera. Yeah thats really gonna steal sales from Canon.
Tony I appreciate your hard work keeping the rest of us informed and educated. I have been saving up to buy my next Nikon DX. For me the D7500 represents a good compromise to the D500. I am someone who needs as large a viewfinder image as possible, so viewfinder magnification is important to me. You state in this video that the viewfinder on the D7500 has 100% frame coverage at 1x magnification. However, the Nikon website lists it as 100% frame coverage at 0.94x magnification.
tony any news of 7d mark iii. ?
D7500 seems to be more about marketing than improvement. It doesn’t seem like an update to D7200 at all. One step froward 2 steps back… 2 additional frames per second and 1 stop better ISO performance are not enough compensation for the loss of the 2nd SD card slot, no battery grip connectors and no compatibility with the old manual focus lenses. Not to mention lower resolution censor, although newer tech.
D7200 and D500 each occupy a different niche, each with its own strengths and weaknesses and used for different types of photography.
Instead of trying to bridge the gap between D7200 and D500, the smarter update to the D7*** line for Nikon would be to expend on the strengths of the D7200. For example, with the newer sensor technology, they could have increased the resolution to 30MP while keeping the same ISO performance (which BTW wasn’t bad at all, although not nearly as good as D500’s) and also kept the same fps.
I honestly don’t think it was a smart move by Nikon and personally, it makes me glad I made a decision about 2 months ago to switch from Nikon (sold everything including D7200) to the Fuji X-T2 system. By the way, this decision was purely personal and had nothing to do with Nikon or the direction they were taking with their camera updates about which I had no clue at the time.
Very nice technical information as you always give in the channel, But, I don’t understand a couple of things. When comparing the D80 with the D7200 Nobody said that the 2 SD cards of the D7200 was so big advantage over the 80D. You have many reviews saying that touch screen is amazing, therefore why this is not a big advantage over the D7200?
Tony,
You can shoot for at least 3 seconds RAW with the d7200.
The D7500 does have a screw drive for focusing older D lenses. You can see it in pics of the mount, and the manual states that it does AF with D lenses. What was removed was the AI indexing tab for metering with old non-CPU AI-S lenses.
so d7500 is new version of d7200?
I have a question Tony. I have a Nikon d300 , I shoot mainly landscapes and macro , the only sport I shoot is rodeos. Is the resolution and picture quality going to be better for this than what I have now ? Also I need the higher iso for the rodeos I shoot , I understand the d7500 would have a lot less noise at iso 3200 or so , correct? thanks for all the great info tutorials you and Chelsea post , great stuff , have learned a lot !
Can you please suggest me which camera to buy in Nikon. It would be for personal use, at outings, family get together, portraits. Right now i am looking at D7200 but can afford higher end models if you suggest
Was hopping for better, good review.
I was wondering in the 1K$ range for night and bar scene would the 5600 be better?
Nikon has lost its magic,
and will be bangkrupt soon
Not sure why it needs 2 slots when jpegs automatically save to your phone with Snapchat. I suppose an SD card can fail but cant say I’ve ever had one do that.
Wait a minute Tony! … You said in the past that it was the D7100 that only gave about one second of shooting RAW until the buffer filled up, and that the D7200, which can shoot 18 RAW files (3 seconds at 6 FPS) made it much more suitable for action and wildlife…. So the new D7500 may be even better for wildlife, but the D7200 is still very usable in this regard. (It’s the D7100 that was useless for action, and NOT the D7200).
It does have the built in focus motor.Just can’t meter some old lens.
What is cross type? What is focus points? Thank you!
The D7500 does have a focusing motor. I would probably take the weight loss to not have it. I am wondering if the dynamic range on the D7500 at low ISO is better than the D500.
actually, the d5300 was the first to have WiFi
