I have a d7000 it is my first dslr and I have learned a lot with it, but I think it is time to upgrade…I think I’ll flip a coin between d500 and d7500 and see what happens.

I’ve been waiting for this one to be announced since I heard about the D500 last year. I had a feeling it would have the same sensor. The single card slot is kinda turning me off though. I suppose it wouldn’t matter as long as I use reliable cards though. It would be a good upgrade it seems from the D7000… I still don’t know what to do…

Jared, I know you wouldn’t punch a woman, but while at a state park a couple months ago, a woman stopped, and machine gunned her 10 fps camera at a Blue Heron standing completely still in the water. She stopped after holding down the button for a few seconds, looked at her camera worried, and said, “I hope I got a great photo!” Dumbfounded, all I could say was, “I sure hope you did!” While at an American Civil War reenactment last year, I could see the guys doing the cannons through my lens. So I gave the people around fair warning that the cannons were about to go off in a couple of minutes. In those couple of minutes, a couple beside me machine gunned their Canons doing 12 fps until the cannons fired. One woman’s daughter was being shy, but wanted to see the photos as we were far away from the cannons naturally. The woman of the machine gunning camera couple shooed her away because she couldn’t be bothered in the lull between the reenactment fighting. So I flipped my Canon to live view, and allowed the little girl to view the cannon operators as well as my reenactor friend fighting at the very back of the field with my 600mm Tamron lens. The mother was so grateful. I participated on that field some years ago during the reenactment, so I knew my friend would be back there where nobody from the stands could actually see with the naked eye. So I feel your pain in wanting to punch guys in the face for machine gunning the camera, especially when they care more for the photos than giving a little girl a once in a lifetime opportunity to see in real time re-enactors on the field. I even allow kids to view zoo animals from far away in the same way. No quarters for the binoculars needed.

Hi Jared, I am a HUGE fan of your shows.. I want you to know I own the D7100 and the D7200 and I will NOT be upgrading to the D7500. Not worth it.. At the end of the day you are losing more than you are gaining by stepping up from a D7200 to a D7500. Just the fact that you are losing a card slot is so wrong.. I like that I use one card slot for pictures and the other for videos and or overflow.. Can’t believe Nikon actually thinks this is a better camera. Thanks Jared for the video.. I would have loved it though if you would have mentioned the one slot card versus the dual card option for the D7200..

However, I think going from a D7200 to a D500 is a worthy and smart choice.

Well I will be buying a D7200 and maybe an xt2 Fuji to shoot in 4K because this card slot thing is irking me a bit.

Happy I have a D500. The D7500 with one memory slot and no joystick not as much focal points a few does not seem like a great upgrade from D7200 to me. I would spend a little more money if I was looking and buy a refurbished D500 if you wanted DX camera.

Just one SD slot…? When you said that I expected to hear “and one XQD slot” next but you went right to the weight specs… That is bullshit and my reason why I won’t even consider buying it. I’ve had a card fail on me recently and the second slot saved my ass because I was shooting RAW to both slots. The sensor sounds amazing, the AF is probably the same as in the D7200 but I will keep my D7100 and invest in better lenses instead.

Better off either saving up for the D500 or getting it used for a price that’s closer to the new D7500… D7500 shares a few features but it’s now where near as awesome as the D500.

I own the D7200 and love it, I see nothing in the D7500 that makes this any real step up, apart from the tilt and touch screen.
