First 😁
50mm 1.8G is my recommendation as well, it’s a gigantic bang for the buck.
If you have a little bit more money, you can buy the 50 1.4G, which is optically not as sharp, but you get quite a bit better bokeh (in terms of blur amount and the quality as well). For portraits it’s more than worth the money. So probably the best bet is to buy a used 50 1.4.
Pretty straight forward this, I’d suggest the 50mm F1.4G or alternatively the 85 F1.8G. You can certainly go for the older D series Nikkors too if you want to save a bit of money. If you don’t mind manually focusing Rokinon/Samyang’s 85mm f1.4 would potentially give you very shallow field of view 😋
FX 50 1.8G. Best bang for buck. Amazing quality. The 1.4 isn’t worth the extra money unless you really need the 1.4. The 1.8 performs better at 1.8 than the 1.4 at 1.8. If you go full frame in the future, the 50 will still be a great lens.
I will definitely opt for the 50m f1.4G Nikkor Lens. That lens is amazing and I bought it based in your recommendation. Unfortunately, the lens was stolen at a church of all places while photographic christening of my cousin’s daughter. Since D7500 already had a motor build with it, I would opt for 1.4D to save money…. Goodluck!
Agreed. But if Joel is a “sharpness-freak”, then Sigma 50mm f1.4 DG HSM Art (@$949) is head and shoulder above the Nikon’s 50mm range. If he is into very low-light portrait with low shutter speed, then Tamron 45mm f1.8 Di VC USD (@$399) is the only image-stabilized one. If he wants the most bang for the buck, Nikon 50mm f1.8D (@$132).
I own the 50 f14G and would not recommend it. I need it for indoor lighting but it’s not the best lens. I’ve used the Sigma Art as well but it has very inconsistent AF. If you want that compressed look, I would recommend the 85 f1.8G. Great lens with good AF and fantastic value. The D lenses are great values but are awefully slow AF compared with the 1.8Gs (the 50 1.4G is only a bit faster than the D). Yes you need more distance for the 85 but the compression is much better (more like a 50mm FX equivalent).
Im going to get my first DSLR soon but im not sure if I should get the Nikon 5300 or Canon T6i for photography?
The 50mm 1.8g is a good cheap lens, if you are not afraid of manual focus, I would recommend the voigtlander 58mm 1.4, built beautifully, smooth focus, beautiful images.
The tokina 100mm is a beautiful portrait lens that ive been using on my D7000…. o wait the 5700 cant use it!
Hi Matt The 1.4 D and G are they full frame
Best lens for the money EVER is the 180mm 2.8. $300 used on eBay. Loses the background better than an 85 1.4, contrast, saturation, bokeh, sharpness, all superb. Cost a grand new but goes for $300 – $400 on eBay.
While I like the 50mm in the studio, I find myself actually preferring to go more telephoto to compress the background when outdoors. Also with a telephoto you can still get nice bokeh with something like a 2.8. Since it really comes down to your personal shooting style and the look you are going for, I would recommend renting a few options and see what works best for your workflow.
Bo kay is not correct boke eh
I’d say go for 85mm 1.8G.. It will give you better result .. but it’s too long .. you will have to be far away for full body portrait!
I use a 50mm 1.4 AIS. Great little lens but its manual only.
I’d go for the 50mm f1.8g. In several examples I’ve seen, I didn’t find the bokeh on the f1.4, significantly better, but if that’s the most important, then the f1.4. However, I’ve found the f1.8 to be sharper on the subject, so I think it’s a trade off. That being said, the Nokton 58mm f1.4 is a different animal entirely, and the examples I’ve seen of it, blew my mind. It is manual focus, but the 7500 has it’s own motor. They’re around 5 to 6 hundred bucks, but wow! If you want the “best”, that’ the best “I’ve” seen.
One of the reviews said there is no internal motor for d7500 so non of the af lens would auto focus …is that true ?
Can I use AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D on Nikon d7500 camera?
But the 50 1.4 d will not auto focus. You have to use a G lens to make it work. I wanted to get a nikon 105 f 2.8 d but it will not auto focus.
