actually seems like a nice feature if you already own a 4K external recorder
2 card slot is essential to pros to whom the camera is bread and butter.
Simultaneous output has nothing to do with processor power – if output current is inadequate it is simply corrected by an additional transistor (yes, no IC required) in the output stage; this is done all the time in signal processing amplifier design.
The omission of the dual card slot is the outcome of Nikon’s devious mentality (which Canon also shares) of not putting all eggs in one basket, and not hurting the sale of both D7200 and D500.
I don’t think having that level of 4K output would physically prevent the D7500 having dual card slots. Some might suggest there wasn’t enough room in the chassis without making the body physically larger, others suggest it was a deliberate design choice to stop it cannibalizing the D500. I don’t think Nikon are aiming the D7500 to any level of Pro use, rather this is more of a fully featured consumer camera all be it at a fairly hefty price. If we assume the D7500 to be Nikons answer to Sony’s A6300/A6500 then everything starts to make sense. Despite my own personal feelings regards dual card slots this issue hasn’t prevented Sony selling their A6xxx line successfully ( or the A7 series for that matter ) none of which feature dual card slots. So maybe the market is right and I’m simply out of touch lol. 😃 I think going forward the main differentiator seperating cameras for pro use or consumer will be whether they have single or dual card slots.
What a stupid idea from Conor aKa nikon worker or aKa Imaginary friend. Yes i hope you are the only one. btw remind him 4k is crop X crop at d5700 pardon d7500
This is not a pro camera, Nikon never said it was that is for sure, if you need a pro DX camera get a D500, quite obvious isn’t it! The Nikon range is changing.
Forget Nikon for video
Did he just say “best 4K” camera? A Nikon? With no focus peaking? And a very low resolution rear LCD? And no smooth focus transition? No face recognition and face following? And with most Nikon lenses also have significant focus breathing? And no IBIS for primes?
Bitrates are not nearly as important as having the footage SECURELY in focus (aka. peaking). You can throw out the whole stuff on the window, if you miss focus with a shallow DoF prime (and you can’t see it on the low res screen), if the subject moves forward or backwards a bit. And noone will give a damn about the bitrate in this case.
I can only say the same, as I said for the “one slot SD card for wedding”. When your job is to DELIVER the footage (or photos), and there is a large staff working on it hard, the question is not the bitrate, but to be ABLE TO DELIVER it.
Tech-geek mentality can only get you this far…
Everyone’s getting their hopes up because it shoots 4k, but no one is talking about the quality of that 4k. Phone can shoot 4k too, but I’m pretty sure it doesn’t compare to a RED camera.
For video the upcoming Nikon full frame mirrorless camera may offer better video options albeit at a substantially higher price. For still shooters the lack of dial card slots is a deal breaker.
hey can you do shoutout or tell which is better camera? sony rx100v or fuji x-t20?
what a junk
Art , there has been such a big fuss about the 7500 not having a second card slot . You would think the only one using an SLR were wedding photographers or National Geographic Photographers . I guess if your being paid big bucks for a shoot it might matter . I have had a second card slot on my last three Nikon DSLR’s and never really had to utilize them . I happen to think the fact the 7500 has a lot of the same features as the D-500 at a much lower price point makes this a pretty good camera . And by the way I can buy a few spare cards , a spare battery with the savings and carry them with me just in case I need them . I appreciate your common sense reviews I am glad you don’t get stupid and bombastic like so many of the goons doing reviews on You tube ! Thanks and keep up the good work .
Which one is better camera then this per money out there for someone who wants to start shooting 4K footage for stock, already shoots photos for stock and has decent collection of Nikon glass? If the answer is D500 I can buy complete led lighting setup with stands or Samyang 24mm 1.4 for price difference in my country.
I shoot primarily 1080 at 60p on my D7500. I bought a a6000 thinking the the 50MBps would out perform the D7500 but the D7500 looks SO much better. The other bonus is with Active -D lighting turned on, the d7500 video does a nice job of pulling in the dynamic range while still keeping the colors vibrant. I don’t know how if compares to grading 10 bit but it looks better than graded 8 bit without Active-D for me. I was considering an Atomos recorder but I’m not sure that I need it now.
