Most reviewers are overlooking the automatic microfocus adjustment of the D7500!!! This is a huge time saver presuming that it works. I also suspect that the D7500 will have a deeper grip than the D500 (more like the D750) and think that the loss of weight will be noticeable. So it will be more maneuverable. I LOVE a tilt screen. Big plus for D7500. BTW the battery life diminishment might be because they assume that the built-in flash will be used a portion of the time.
I love my D7100 looking for an upgrade the D7500 is to me going back . Now should I go full frame ? D610 D750 or D810 ? I shoot wildlife / landscape and urban photos . What would be best for me . Thank You
nikon needs a steve jobs to grill their lazy asses.
Battery life: Even if its less than maybe the D500, it’s still more than enough for most users. There are people who like Sony cameras and don’t see their battery life as a deal breaker. A DSLR, in my opinion, cannot have bad batttery life. maybe less long than others, but it’s usually always great!
You’re not excited for the same reason I’m not excited. You already own better cameras. I have a D810, D600, and D5300. If I only had the D5300 and was on a budget, I’d probably be very interested in the D7500. D500 sensor in a cheaper body? Yes please. But since I already have a D810, there’s not really any point in being interested in the D7500. It’s obviously not marketed towards you and I.
Just the buffer increase and sensor improvement compared with the D7200, makes me think of getting a second body to my D610 for birding 🙂
I read from an article recently that Nikon had a great loss on their financial status. It was mentioned that Nikon is planning to simplify their product line up and focus more on the high end side. Whereas, the 3000, 5000 and 7000 series will be taken in to one category. The high end will remain as is. In my humble opinion, perhaps this D7500 is the start of this turning point. Consider my comment with a grain of salt. Thank you for sharing and have subscribed. Appreciate how you deliver your thoughts 🙂 I am a Nikon shooter as well since my first second hand EM (hand me down).
It would be nice if you will let us know whether this D7500 is reasonably-priced. Thanks.
the D7500 is an insult basically.
I can understand why you are not jumping for joy at the D7500. I am also still shooting with a D7100 and my D70. both are still making great images and I don’t feel a lack. I don’t see a reason to upgrade right now and I don’t really see the D7500 as an upgrade. i might get a D610 if I was in the market.
there was nothing wrong with the Nikon Lineup previously D7200/D500 adding the D7500 just adds competition to the 80D and 77D Canon for which the Nikon versions are way better so I don’t see a problem with the new camera.
The D7500 battery is *HIGHER* capacity than the D7200 battery, though, so if you turn off the touch screen and whatever other features the D7200 didn’t offer, you’ll probably GAIN battery life. There’s just no free lunch!!! 4K video is really a battery eater, just ask Sony.
All in all, the D7500 may seem like a weird step backwards compared to the D7200 and the D500, however look at it from the perspective of competing with what other brands are offering…
Sony’s APS-C battery life is *PATHETIC*; you have to carry a half-dozen batteries in your pocket if you want to shoot 4K video and stills all day long.
Canon has just completely flat-lined when it comes to anything below the 7D mk2; no dual card slots, nothing innovative at all in years, other than their half-decent live view autofocus.
So what is Nikon supposed to do, when the competition isn’t even *TRYING* to match a camera like the D7200? Nikon’s entire lineup has been king of the hill for many generations now.
If anything, Nikon is taking a queue from its competition, when it does things like kill the 2nd SD slot and compromise on battery life….BECAUSE THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT SONY AND CANON HAVE ALWAYS DONE.
In other words, the D7500 is better suited (at its new lower weight class and smaller size) to compete with a camera like the Sony A6500, compared to what a big chunky D7300 might have been.
If you’re bummed about the D7200-D7500 steps down, but want 4K video, 8 FPS, or the new flagship AF, just pony up and buy a D500.
If you’re bummed about the D7500’s omissions, and DON’T care about 4K video or FPS, then just stick with the D7200. The images from it are still WAY beyond what a Canon or Sony APS-C option can offer, lol.
Thanks for sharing your video.
In the U.K. the D500 is only £400 more than the D7500 and that is why I would by the D500. No brainer really – Adam 🙂
The D500 is $1000 more in New Zealand. Yep im not jokeing.
I can´t melt this at all. Making a new camera model and do it harder to take pictures, when you can´t put a battery grip on. Some of the entry level cameras from Nikon has battery grip, or am I wrong? And just one card slot. No way, I will not buy this. I get more and more interested in D7200 after this, I have D7100 now. Black and white pictures on highest ISO is the biggest back lash with that one…
Not at all impressed with the D7500, and Ill still be using my D7100 for birds and wildlife. Was excited about the D500, but don’t like the QXD… would have liked the CF & SD combo of my D810. If I I pull the trigger on the D5, I’d order mine with dual CF slots. Not a fan of the QXD, and don’t like be extorted into buying them. I’m still holding out hope Nikon will make a true upgrade to the D700… 20 MP sensor, maybe two more FPS and the better low light, etc., while keep the same great build quality and durability and with dual CF slots. Perhaps a D5 without the integrated grip and calling it the D710 ???
could you clear on how the battery life backward? cuz i think d7500 use en-el15 bat.
At $1250.00 (Amazon price), I don’t know if that D7500 will be flying off the shelves. The upside is the prices dropped on the D7100 and D7200 models. The bodies sell for less than $700. and $800. in the US.
This just goes to show you, people don’t like change. My standard for judging a new camera is could I work with it and be happy with the results. I think my answer for the D7500 would be yes. It should produce images similar to the D500, there’s nothing wrong with that. The lower battery life reflects the addition of the touchscreen, which I think people will find useful once they are used to it. It is all about the images that you can produce and this is a very good camera. I can’t say whether I would buy one until the camera is released and has been thoroughly tested.
I shoot mostly bird photography for the past 4 years using D7000. While my current camera is enough, D7500 features like 8fps, slightly higher MP count (vs D7000), higher buffer count (vs D7000), -3 EV, 51 focus points and group AF are a real treat for me. These are the features that I wanted for my next camera upgrade. Shorter battery life and no battery grip contacts certainly are certainly big turn off but I can manage those. Single card slot is not an issue for me, look at Canon 7d and Nikon D700.
I’m no pro, just a hobbyist that enjoys bird and wildlife photography. Still having my thoughts on D500 but the entry of D7500 is a nice alternative for us hobbyist who are on a budget.
