+TheSnapChick Looking at the specs of the D7500 I believe that removing one card slot is a way from Nikon to “protect” the D500 as the D7500 is similar to the D500 in terms of performance and cheaper and therefore would sell more than the D500. We saw the same from Canon with the 5D Mark IV trying to protect its cinema line …. The fact that battery life is reduced can be forgiven since Nikon always gives better than average battery life.
joke camera no vertical grip
I got a 2nd hand D7100. And I would not want to go back to one memory card slot. When i’m on holiday, just put in two big cards and i’m ready for a long time. The chance of losing data is very small however I like it a lot that i’m pretty sure two slots won’t fail at the same time.
This is a very big fail on Nikon’s part! They need to focus on coming out with a great mirrorless camera to compete with Sony. I use Nikon but I’m getting a bit frustrated due to the fact they seem to be going backwards on certain models!
now i am used to two memory cards. but i shot with a Nikon D80 for six or seven years. it had one card and i never lost an image do to a bad card. this new 7500 blows away my D80 and paid around 1200 for my D80 but with two kit lenses. the D7500 seems like all the image quality of the D500 for way less money. so if you are not shooting wild life or sports wear you need the D500 focusing system. then i dont see any issues unless you want it for weddings and you really want two cards. the battery life isnt a big deal. i always have an off brand second battery anyway. personally i wish Nikon would compete in the full frame and apsc mirrorless market. hopefully soon
Just like so many other reviewers, you totally missed out on the simultaneous output of 4k video to the SD slot AND uncompressed to the HDMI. That’s a HUGE feature, and is far superior to many if not most similarly priced competitors with 4k capability. I think potential overheating or data throughput issues caused the removal of the second SD slot, and the lower resolution of the LCD…can’t speak for the battery issue, that might just be to protect the d500…
It’s not a d7200 successor according to nikon, there’s nothing to be excited about its a nikon fail Imo, waste of time
I believe the angry photographer is correct on this, it’s a D5700..
wait one year and there will be the extra card and better batteri..
d7100 – Portraits
d7200 – Sports/ Wildlife
d7500 – A step down with an improved sensor.
Yes the D500 would be the best choice if you want to stick to DX format. …
You didnt even touch on most of the negatives of the d7500. No ai ring. No built in af motor. Loss of mp. (not a big deal) Loss of screen resolution.(big deal) Only one card slot and not UHS-II compatible. (really, with 4k it needs a fast card) And worse battery life. I’m sure i missed some but this is a Nikon mistake. They should have waited 6 months and called it the d5700. People would’ve loved it. You dont always have to be nice about a product. We like to know truth, good and bad.
keeping my D7000
@TheSnapChick
the thing i like on my d7000 and my d610 is the use of AI and AI-S lenses.
with this new piece of junk, Nikon has broken a 50-years tradition of retro-compatibility. that’s one thing you should point out, this camera breaks about everything good with legacy lenses. garbage, right after breaking compatibility with entry-level lenses with their new AF. this company is making quite the odd choices and 2017 may strike the coup de grâce after few yew of poor decisions.
Wow! you got a D500…considering what you said about it when it came out 🙂
To take away the second card, have no battery grip and remove support for the older lenses by removing the AI indexing tab is a retrograde step. The higher price is not matched by the specs.
Check jareds is nikon in trouble video, he talks very clearly that Nikon needs to streamline it’s DSLR lines. D7500 has no logical place. D3400, D5600, D500 is all you need in crop sensor.
I was hoping that D7500 will get autofocus system from D500 not the matrix. Loosing memory slot, AI AIS/ manual lenses compatibility and battery life is NOPE no way. This is more like D6500 camera way below D7X00 line.
This camera is a bust. Remove the battery life, card slot, and joy stick. Just buy a used D500.
I need a camera that does not break easily…..Unacceptable to me is any one of the new bodies….all cheaply made…D610, 7XXX
