Totally unbiased and sensible review 👍👌.
You know what’s really odd, shooting manual video and the red focus box remains on the LCD screen. It’s baffling, why would you want that, while recording. it’s always present in the LCD viewer or field monitor and it’s distracting. You already did the manual focus so the red box is not necessary while recording. Even if you turn AF off in the menu, set the lens at manual, that red square focus square remains in video recording.
not for me
The D7500 is my third Nikon DSLR due to my lack of research into a DSLR for my needs so for me this is a complete upgrade from the D3300 and D3400. But some of the key features that seem to be left out on reviews such as this is the fact it is weather sealed and built rugged. It is the camera your gonna want in your pack in the back country in all weather conditions. Make sure you have a spare battery and memory cards and your good!!
I have a friend in my camera club that just walked in with a new D7500. I walked in with a new Fuji X-T2. I wanted to show some enthusiasm for the guy’s camera but I was choking to say the least. I owned a D7200 and sold it when I bought my D500. I wanted to be honest and say “why didn’t you buy a D7200 and safe some money”? He was using a D3000 series camera. He thought it was almost as good as my D500, but it’s not even in the same ball park.
I’m curious, have you actually tested the camera, what was your real world experience with the battery life?
I’ve seen results that literally double what’s quoted on the tin!
I’ve studied closely D7200, D7500 and D500 and I’ve chosen D7500. Now, after 1.5 month I can say that I love the camera. A GREAT camera, the best price/performance out there perhaps.
Why not D500: It’s 500 bucks more expensive, it is larger and it is a bit too large, while D7500 is JUST great, it has no pop up flash that can be useful sometimes and I do not like that substitute for PASM disc Nikon is using.
Why not D7200: It’s grip is much less comfortable, it has fixed screen (anachronism for me), I like it’s colors less then D7500’s colors, it’s ISO performance is much less then D7500’s, it has a small serial buffer and is quite slow (only 6fps), no group AF mode (which I use).
About D7500 drawbacks:
Battery life? You ever used a Sony A7II or A7RII? THAT is a small battery life. 950 shots from one battery is way more then enough!
Vertical grip? You really need it? Go get a Chinese one, they are producing them already.
Second card? Well… I’ve used cameras with a single cards for last 12 years. I’ve never lost a shot. I really don’t see this feature as a necessity, more like something extra that is not actually needed.
What is REALLY missing in D7500? Fast speed of AF in LV mode. Yep. I came from Sony and slow AF in LV bugs me but not enough to scare me away.
Overall, D7500 is a great camera with outstanding IQ – solors, AF performance,, speed, details – it’s all there in a very comfortable body. Love this camera!
I am using D7500 it is good for those who want to upgrade d7000 or lower, and not a budget of D500. Batteries issue I mostly use back button focusing it saves lots of battery. Overall I love it with this budget
I have D7500 from couple of months , its really not an upgrade from 7200 if you have 5500 or 3300 then yes it would be an upgrade. If i would have already owned 7200 then i would definitely go for D500 for those extra focusing points
The 7000 series have been that middle of the road camera between the consumer and mid pro level, now it just seems like a entry level beginner camera.🤔
Missing the AI Indexing ring also. Have an AI-S lens that I can’t use on this camera, but can for the 7000, 7100, 7200
Nikon for me! I had to Canon DSLR that crashed on me already Error 99!
The problem with this camera, unless I’m incorrect, you cannot turn off the red focus box and this is especially annoying when shooting video with a field monitor. I’m speaking in terms of all manual settings. You want a clean view on a field monitor but the red box remains.
I am thinking about upgrading my D90 and was considering the D7500 but having looked at several reviews I am leaning towards the D500 as for me I don’t think I’ll need to upgrade it again. Any advice
For one, it has a tilting touch screen, which the D7200 does not..that may..have something to do with it’s battery life. I think the nameplate D7500 is bungled marketing scheme, as it really isn’t a successor to the D7200, but honestly..the D5600. The D500 should have in my view, been the D7500, and the 7500, should have been the D6000, or D5700.
I have watched a lot of videos on the D7500 now – and I don’t want to spend $2000 for the D500. I have the D200! Have had it since 2005 and love it. So, I decided I needed a lighter weight camera since I’m getting old and my D200 really gets heavy with my walk around 18-200 lens – also have a HEAVY macro lens. So, evidently I didn’t watch enough youtubes and took the advice of a couple of people and bought a D3400 – hated it – bought a used D5500 – like some of the features – but it just doesn’t have the sharp photos on a consistent basis like my D200. So, now I’m selling it (anyone interested) and getting the “not perfect” D7500 with the 18-140 lens. It should be lighter weight for my skinny arms and aging 77 yr old body! I still enjoy photography and don’t want to give up completely – I’m what I’d call an advanced enthusiast!! LOL So, from the D200 to the D7500 – I should be happy, but if not, I’ll sell it and go back to my D200! So, most of you are comparing the D7500 to the D7200 – but how would you compare it against the D200?
As a Nikon shooter I was a bit bemused by this camera. It doesn’t really seem like a true D7xxx successor as it has stripped out 1 card slot, cheaper build quality, worse buffer and worse battery life. And yet, it has the same sensor as the D500 (which is good), 4K video and a tilting touchscreen. This has to be the most frustrating camera ever! I am actually wondering whether to wait & see if Nikon releases a D5700 maybe Q4 of 2018. If they do it could have a 24MP sensor, expeed 5 processor, 4K video at 30/60p, full vari-angle 3.2″ touchscreen, new metering system, 51 point AF, maybe 7fps burst etc & I reckon it would come in at half the price of the D7500. Could be a decent buy with some compromises like 1/4000th sec top shutter speed, plastic body, poorer buffer etc.
Excellent review from a beautiful model look photographer
I still cant figure out if this woman is married?..🤔
Before the 7500 came out. I was going to up grade to the 7200. I was thinking of an articulating screen. Not a fold out. I like the touch screen and the dual media slot is not a deal breaker. I have a 5100 and this is a big move. I have the battery grip so my batteries keep up even in live mode. But the 7500 has a tilt and touch screen. A better processor, I think its number is 5. The comment I get from the photo stores if you want low light the 7500 is really better. Now I had a d 40 nikon and I used to shoot in old missions. Great results. But I really don’t know which on to go to
