This just exemplifies how far out of touch and broken Nikon’s Corporate structure really is. They are so use to telling the consumer base this is what you get because we think this is enough, unlike how Fuji are gratifying their customers long after purchasing continually making them better and actually care what people think and want!! I’ve been a Nikon guy for so long and it just feels like a kick in the crotch.

l would have preferred to have an updated D7200, not a stripped down D500. An updated 24 megapixel sensor with improved dynamic range, dual SD card slots, focus peaking as you said and the provision of using the same battery grip as my D7200. I will pass on the D 7500.

Matt, you forgot to mention that there is simultaneous 4k output to BOTH the SD AND the HDMI (uncompressed) in the d7500. Am I the only one who thinks that the sacrifice of an SD slot and the lower resolution output to the LCD are so that the camera can have simultaneous 4K output? It seems that is a worthwhile trade off to me…That’s a HUGE feature that is not present in any other price range competitor with 4K…if it had 10 bit, it’d be the KING of 4k cameras in it’s price range (and significantly higher as well)…

I was expecting from Nikon to release D7300 as a competitor to Canon 80D in terms of image sensor (yes i want more mp than 20 when canon offers 24), AF system, video quality, FPS ext. because I wanted to upgrade my camera. With this shitty amateur camera they announced I have two options: Buy D7200 or sell my gear and move to Canon which I think will do at the end.

Interesting points. The lower number of shots per battery might be because the D7500 has a builtin flash, and the count assumes some shots taken with flash.

They should have called it the D75 since it is segmented just like the D90 was to its 3 digit big brother the D300.
I lived without the aperture feeler on my D70/D90 just fine.
Dual card slot would be nice but none of it competitors at this price point have dual slots either.
I would rather have this camera than my 7200 since it has features I longed for.
Highlight weighted metering
Tilting screen.
Power aperture.

The D500 is Nikon’s competition for the 7D Mk II. The D7500 is now really Nikon’s competitor for the 80D . The 4k video capability is great, but Nikon should’ve put focus peeking in as you said, Matt. Nikon should also be bundling the D7500 with an electronic aperture lens to allow aperture changes in live view to go with the 4k video capability. The huge file sizes that 4k video generates also make the deletion of the 2nd card slot even more confusing. The new battery also appears to not be compatible with the regular EN-EL15. That’s a big negative for current D7xxx owners who are thinking of upgrading if all their spare batteries won’t work in the D7500.

Might as well suggest Matt is the Arsene Wenger of the Nikon D7500 world: Unable to see what everyone else does. It’s a flop (like the Arsenal team at the minute) but trying to concentrate on the positives. Flogging a dead horse Matt. Time to take the blinkers off and smell the D5700 behind the given model name. The D7xxx series has been referred to as the prosumer DX model line. Especially the indexing functionality of the older AI/AI-S lenses. This won’t sell well IMHO. Really regrettable. Still a hardcore loyal Nikon fan though

D7500 is such a disapointment to me. I decided to go with d7100 with multiple piece of glasses since I found that upgrade of d7500 is more towards the video side.

There is more features left out from the D7500 when compared to the D7200! A 20.9 mega-pixel sensor instead of a 24 mega-pixel sensor, 1 card slot instead of 2, no NFC connection, no battery grip, lower resolution display, and NO AI-coupling for older Nikon lenses. Go figure, the D7200 is a beast of a camera and is better in many ways over the D7500.

The D7200 looks even more attractive to me now than ever, and will likely dive in price when the 75 is actually out. Might be a real good time to pick up a great deal on a kickass camera. The D 7200.

I know why they at taking a step backwards with this one, It’s a Dog!!!, with no Pony Show in sight!!! This shouldn’t have been released, I hope the 810 replacement or 820 is better than this or Nikon will start to have problems. There are too many choices for things like this. Fuji is doing updates via firmware, the pressure is on.
