I think people have a hard time reading DXOmark numbers
D7500 = 1483 – D750 = 2956
1483 x 2=2966 (1 stop)
All that means is “in lab tests” the D7500 trails iso performance by around one stop. That can easily be compensated with lens choice by using one stop wider aperture on the DX body which allows 1 stop lower ISO. By doing this you also have the same FX look of bokeh and DoF on a DX. The sensor can only capture what the lens shows it…
My usual questions: What are you shooting? What kind of glass do you use?
I would go with the D750 here. Slightly better higher ISO (but very close). Although the D7500 shares the D500 sensor, the image processing seems to be better over ISO800 from what I have seen (your opinion may be different). The D7500 has a wider area for AF ( I believe they may use the same AF system) and both seem to have good AF; D750&D7500
I own the D3300, D750 and D850, the D750 has the upper hand over his other 2 sisters. D750 is still a low light beast!!! I know 2 guys who owned the D750 and D500 and both sold the D500 and kept the D750 as they needed mostly low light performance (they do Astrophotography) both said the D750 is just better in high ISO and has the pictures to prove it.
D750 is a winner in my book, one of the best performing low light cameras even today. I had a choice, add the D750 or the D500 to my Nikon kit ( both about the same price and just within my budget ). I already have the D7200 and needed more on the wide end and better low light performance, so the D750 it was. Very glad I chose it over the D500 personally, your milage might vary. To be honest I personally wouldn’t consider the D7500 in any situation but that’s just me, I need those 2 card slots! 😊
I’ve had two d750’s and it does have the best low light/DR image quality that sensor is great. That said I sold my last one again just because I find the dx lenses size and weight better for ME. I get nearly the same low light quality with my new d7500 using the 35 1.8g vs d750 with 50 1.8g ( the only lens size/weight/IQ I wanted to live with on it that wasn’t a slower 2.8d prime). Compared to my d7100 that I’ll never part with low light IQ is light years better to me and usable without flash. I’ll usually give up the sharpness advantage ( and it is very sharp with the 35 1.8g very good wide open) of the d7500 for some extra NR in LR and call it dam near on par with the d750 plus you get alot more performance that I’ve been enjoying over the good old d750. Another excellent sharp useful DX lens that I’ll never part with that’s great in low light for a zoom wide open is the sigma 17-50 2.8 ex hsm. To sum it up D750 is awesome and will not disappoint but lacks the size/weight/versatility DX lenses give ME, lens size and weight just wears the fun off out and about day to day.
The D750 is an excellent choice for shooting indoors and in low light. The full frame sensor is great for wide angle shots and a shallow depth of field. It is my go to camera when I don’t need the speed of the D4s or the resolution of the D810. I’m also not a fan of the D7500 because it only has 1 card slot. If I was going to use a DX camera the first choice would be the D500 and the second choice would be the D7200… However, they are all very good camera’s! Good luck, and Happy New Year!
One thing no one has touched is lenses and your budget for them. In order to benefit from better ISO capabilities of D750 you’ll have to be able to buy fast glass (2.8 practically, if you go for zooms). And for focal lengths with similar field of view, that’s going to cost more than for DX. If you are only going to be able to afford f/4 lenses for D750, you might as well stay in DX and buy f/2.8 lenses for less money. A f/4 lens in FX and f/2.8 lens in DX provide the same depth of field, and the slower FX lens will eat any ISO benefit you get from FX.
Tough question! Although FX is the defining feature for me.
I would go with the D7500 if you don’t have the full frame lenses that you need because it will cost you too much and if you have more money because you need to buy full frame lenses. Yes, if you have crop lenses you can sell them, but you probably won’t get the money that you need for full frame lenses.
I would go for the D750. I have shot with Nikon for years and after catching Lyme disease almost 2 year ago,my photography started to slip.I have used my D800 for some years and i found i could no long use it, as the shakes i now have from Lyme made using it a no go . I got a new D750 in November 2017 and my photography as come back to life, and i’m now much happier with my astro work,as it’s the best camera i’ve had in low light ( and i’ve been doing photography since 1973 ). Good luck with what ever you choose .
I enjoy your videos. I recently got back in photography (old film shooter here) and faced the decision between the D500 and D750. The D500 was my choice because of the focusing system as I shoot mostly sports photography. The low light performance of the D500 is very impressive. I used a website that compared cameras and their ISO performance and the D500 was a bit better by their images posted through 51200 native. With the technology today, I believe the full frame sensor would out perform smaller sensors but that will change. The D7500 as far as I know has the same sensor as the D500. That being said, it’s not much more money to jump into the D750 body and that would be my choice between the two.
NIkon D750 was released Sept 2014. It’s due for a refresh (rumour sites are saying in 2018), so I would wait for the newer model, also the D750 would drop in price when the newer model comes out, so it’s a win-win situation. However, if you can’t wait, I would go with the D750 over the D7500. The low light performance in the D750 is amazing.
I am going to purchase the Nikon D750. Along with the Panasonic GH5. And the Canon 80D
Yep, I totally agree. I’m an event photographer and have the D750. I’ve also recently purchased the D850 but I love my 750 as a backup. I really love the D850 but I switch over to the D750 for dark wedding reception type situations. It really is a low light beast.
I know that the D500 will autofocus on things that you cant see with your naked eye because of low light, as far as the 750 it has had way too many problems for me to invest in one and I have never touched a 7500 but it should be a very good low light camera if you dont mind the single card slot
I hope you are having a speedy and smooth recuperation.
D750 any time
D750 any day of the week. Just the lens selection alone is already worth getting into full frame.
Definitely D750 has better low-light performance than any APS-C camera out there. It is in that respect even superior to the legendary FF D810 (and of course, even than the 46MP champ D850). The only two cameras in Nikon’s stable with better low light performance are the obscure pricey ($2750!) 16MP Nikon Df and the pro 20MP D5 ($6500 gasp!)
Iam really in to real estate videography. I want a good wide angle lens to pair with my 80D. Iam considering canon 10-18 f/4.5-5.6 and sigma 10-20 f/3.5. I like canon because it is image stabilized. But Iam worried about its low light perfomance because it’s f/4.5 to 5.6. That is why Iam considering the sigma. Please give me a suggesion. Thanx in advance.
