I’d take the D850… simply because it is the cheaper option to ship to my country than the D5… though both would be expensive as shit to land here after customs and duties ($25000 TTD for cam alone… $35000 TTD landed after fees… that’s $4950 USD for a body alone!!!) I don’t want to think the D5 landed price.
The only quandary I have now is that I want a D850 and trying to save up for it, but with the stock issues I’m not sure if to bother or try something else like a D810.. or even a D500.
D850 for the win. incredible camera
D850 bought, own d810.
Great message. Nicely done.
Well I will have to go with Jared on this one, the D850 is for me. I am an amateur and have been taking more and more photos over the years. Had a D300, D800 and now am dreaming of the D850. The D5 is just out of my price range, but I really like the “bang for your buck” of the D850! Anyone want to loan an old Irishman $3300? LOL Thanks Jared, nice comparison.
Alpine Mountain Lanscapes in extreme weather…..I love the idea of the higher megapixels on 850, but thinking the D5 might be the better solution to handle that kind of environment…am I right?
D5 is such a waste of money
the angry bald guy hates the D5
D850 for the price, versatility and flexibility.
Why would anyone ever shoot an image at ISO 102,400? Let’s see a quality image at that ISO.
I see no point to purchase D5..
As a working photographer, I own both the D4s as well as the D850. While I’m obviously excited about my new camera (D850) I see a need for both cameras in my work. They both have their own strengths and will be used accordingly. I absolutely love the flagship bodies and how they feel in the hand. When I get the grip for my D850 it’ll feel better to work with, but I already like the way it feels (minus the no grip issue). Different cameras, different needs. A great team having both.
I obviously didn’t feel the need (or want to spend the money) to go from the D4s to the D5. The D5 is pricing itself a little too aggressively in my eyes. Hopefully Nikon cools that down for future flagship models.
Another worthless comparison, just go out there and use what you got, it’s the Indian not the arrow! When will you learn?
Hi Jared I do think that now they are different tools in that the D5 is an superb at spots and low light image capture unbeatable in the Nikon line up for press and event photography, Where as for commercial and more general work the detail you can get from the D850 is up with larger format camera of 5 to 10 years but at a fraction of the cost. I have both the D850 and X1D they are both different tools and give outstanding image quality but they both relay on good technique. Thanks for all the great videos.
The D5 is better at so few things as to make it a tool for specialists only. Downsizing the D850 files makes it a better camera for weddings if you don’t want such a high megapixel count as the greater dynamic range will still give better portrait images. The D5 is really a photo journalists camera or a specialist sports camera and is good for people who want to shoot black cats in mine shafts. Everything else the D850 does better.
Is already end 2017 & 2018 is coming soon, yet you still doing comparison on old DSLR technology. Please do something new video for your channel.
Something that is rarely mentioned is that if you’re shooting macro, D850 get the checkmark not only thanks to the higher megapixels, but even more so from the in-built focus shifting, which works fantastic (ones you learn how to use it).
…so check-mark goes to me 🙂
D5 is not as well built as the D3 actually.
D850 100%
I shoot landscapes and wildlife, as well as video and stills in a controlled environment (studio like setting). The cropability, the lower native ISO, and full frame video are very exciting to me. Hope to get one in a few months. For now the D7200 is serving me well.
