Wow. Blank check?? I’d go with the D5. But, boy. Getting two D850’s for the price of one D5 would be such a looming thought in my mind if I was in a store with them in front of me.
I do like the ‘big boy’ grip of the 5, but damn, I could buy a battery grip with the money I save going with the 850.
If you’re an event shooter, odds are high that you need two bodies.
When the rumors avout the D5s came true I will get one. They say it will have the same pixel ratio as the standard D5 but with 20 FPS and a 1000 frames buffer.
Tbh more megapixels is better
Hahah my Nikon D3400 has 23 megapixels 3 more than the d5 😂😂😂😂😂 the D3400 was only 600 bucks
@jared polin
I will go for D850, just looking for good price with ‘some’ good kit. Any recommendation (-kit wise-)? oh and: You helped me in my choice today, thanks!
I have been shooting with my Nikon D7000 for quite some time and was looking forward in testing one of these bodies but i believe the D810 will be a big change for me since i have never used a Full Frame Body Before. A big turn off with the D5 is that i will have to upgrade my memory card since it only accepts XQD Cards.
Really a stupid question. La Ferrari or a 500 Abarth?
D850
OK at 3:00.. so You can switch to 30 MP on D850
Regardless I think the d5 is a camera that you want to take to the north pole or to shoot riots.
It’s ruff ready and rugged and looks like it can take a number of drops
would it be a great option to have a d850 and a d500 instead of d5?
I shoot mostly weddings and landscapes so for me, as much as I would love to say I own a D5, I would most likely select the D850. I personally feel the increased price tag isn’t worth the difference in specs. I’d rather take the extra money and buy better glass
Even though the D850 has the same processor as the D5 it isn’t as accurate and losses track of the subject like the D500.
d850 because it has more of what i need for what i want to do with weddings and such and landscapes
Matt Granger was only getting 28 raws with the D850 buffer, which is poo if you’re into wildlife photography unfortunately. I have a D4 and wasn’t impressed enough with the upgrades on the D5 to get it. No wifi? Really? There’s a lot about the D850 which I like. I love the idea of a high MP camera which is great for landscapes, that can be used for wildlife, but that buffer would definitely be limiting (it was in the D90). I’m still getting such good results from my D4, that I cant just cant justify the expense of getting a new body yet.
For the body appearance wise I like D5 but most of the people will go for D850 because of its high mega pixels, me too. Many people would have even bought D810 rather than D5 just because of the difference between the resolutions.
I think I should buy D850 to save money.. and buy good lenses.
Hi, I am about to invest into a new body however still not 100% sure which one to buy…?
I really like D850 features eg. silent shooting, tilting monitor… which would perfectly support my Event photography however what draws me back is huge RAW files.
Question to you guys out there…. What is your experience shooting with D850 in Medium-RAW resolution in Low Light situations? Especially, I would like to hear your experiences around how sharp the images out of the camera are? What about ISO performance in 4000 – 10.000 range?
FYI. Currently I use D4s
. Thank you!
I am a Nikon user myself. I already have a Nikon D750 (as well as a D700 and D7000). If I had the budget, I would buy both the D5 and D850 plus several lenses.
If I had to choose one of these two cameras, it would be the D5 for the speed and build quality.
I had to make this choice, and I chose the D5. It’s more of a specialized tool for sports, low light work, and for use in crappy conditions. It’s an absolute beast when you use it for what it was meant to be used for. The D850 is an amazing general purpose camera. I agree with you that for your average person, the D850 is the better choice. But the average person isn’t outside shooting night time sports with the worst lighting imaginable and being required to deliver high quality photos. The D850 won’t help you much for that. Just pick the right tool for the job you do. For me, the D5 was the no-brainer. Nothing else that Nikon makes will do the job I need it to do.
