I won’t buy it either. Nothing for landscape shooters.I agree with you disappointed is an understatement. Does it have aperture control in live view or is that still not there.
I’m keeping my D7100 until I can get a used D500 for 1000usd. I’ll use the D7100 for sports and wildlife, and when I want to use old AI lenses. And I’ll use my D5300 when I want an articulating screen.
The camera is the photographic equivalent of one of those modern, brightly coloured toasters with lots of high tech controls (maybe you can even sit at the table and eject the toast with your i-phone.) You see it; you go Yeeeah!, but then you discover the slots are too narrow for anything other than boring, thinly sliced, processed bread. Fancy one of your favourite delicious toasted fruit buns? Sorry – it won’t fit! Fancy using your 105mm F2.5 (Afgan Girl)?, or maybe your 24mm Ais? How about your Ais macro lens?…… No! – No! – No!
Often when you see a new camera come out, you think “I may own one of those at some point.” In the D7500’s case, it’ll be NEVER.
So when D7600 is coming?
Right, it’s more of an overpriced “D6000” really isn’t it? I think this is what will kill Nikon, they already said they’re in trouble of going out of business, the blood is in the water and I think many Nikon users are looking for a sign when to jump ship and removing features from their best price to performance model seems like a pretty big sign.
This is no way to get people to spend more money into their system or buy into it. The D7000 was a great camera that convinced me to buy into Nikon for Sports after selling the 7D; in my opinion it saved the company back in 2010 when all their APSC models were dead in the water.
Who will the D7500 attract though? As you’ve pointed out, most people intending to use this for professional use, as well as those looking to upgrade their previous D7x00 camera, will be disappointed by the lack of grip, slots & legacy support and those that just want it for casual uses will likely sight the lower megapixel count and much higher cost to a D5600. Those that want 4K can get it cheaper from every other brand, those that absolutely need 4k for Nikon mount probably already bought the D500 and those that waited for a cheaper Nikon 4K option will wait a little longer for the “D5700”. Which brings me to the D5x00 line, where is that supposed to go now? How can it really differentiated itself, all I can think of is that it would be more Video centric with a flip out touch screen and IBIS which is probably what the D7500 should have been. Or maybe we’ll see some like a “D4000” for $800 (D5600 body with D3600 features and D500 internals)
Nikon should fire their product development team
yeah but what are you expecting form a d810 successor? the D5 focusing system? more megapixels? better continous shooting?… than you’ll be disappointed, the only way to still be the successor of the d810 in nikon’s line up will be something like, tweaked af, and add touch and 4k, that’s it, I wouldn’t expect something more that this
I don’t care! Fujifilm for me brother! pmsl
So I’m looking to get a camera to:
1) go travelling and take nice shots of the landscape/cities.
2) take sports pictures
3) film some freeskiing
I was looking at the D7200, D500 and D750
The D500&D750 are just SO damn expensive.
I was convinced the 7200 would be the one I’d end up getting. its quite cheap and does what i want it to do.
However, the 7500 now offers me 4k video and more better burst, which is quite good i guess for my requirements 2/3.
I mean I really don’t need the 2nd SD card slot and I’m not really losing anything else am I?
Can anyone give me an opinion on this? Maybe a recommendation?
Fuji XT2 $1399 brand spanking new mirrorless two cards. Used D500 beast of a camera used $1500. Nikon Blew it!
is the body plastic, d5500 like, or d7200 like?
100% agree
Nikon officially busted their 7k series.
I have d7000 for landscapes and urban photography, and since they announced d500 with same sensor from d5, i was so exited, even more exited that d7500 comes with the same sensor as well, but its been a year since d500 and d5 been on the market, so d7500 should have more improvements, but seems Nikon screwed with new model, and i have to go on with fuji or sony in the future… 🙁
no thank you, ill just grab a sony a6000 for 500$ hahahah
As the Angry Photographer said in his review, it should be called the Nikon D5700.
What a joke of a camera. Can’t believe Nikon did that. Welcome to their 100 anniversary.
The D7500 looks like a trick to make people buy more D500.
Doesn’t seem like Nikon intends to sell D7500 – basically that 1/2 popcorn at almost the cost of big one, so buyers obviously say – “Why not get the full thing” i.e. the D500.
No ai lens index why why great old lenses wtf
I bailed on Nikon about 3 weeks before they announced they were throwing their hands up in the air with how to compete in the market. And there are many things that i miss, but i cant stomach their continued arrogance and not embracing the new directions of the market. they just continue to affirm my decision to go with Sony.
