I would like Apple to come out with a wide screen display option. Either in iMac or add on to the Mini.
I’ll be buying used 27″ iMacs as long as Apple supports them.
I’ve been using Mac Mini with 29” monitor since the M1 came out. I used iMac 2009 til then. I used to have desktop, UMax tower, iMacs and Macbooks and now I miss iMac’s all in one setup without hubs and wires. I plan to go back to iMac as the next one comes out. The latest model is a lot lighter and thinner than the one I had, next one will be lighter, bigger and thinner, I guess.
Thank you for the great information
apple were stupid not to release a 27″ M1….
I’ve been using MacIntosh since 1993. The best model for me has been the 27” 5k iMac [2014]. I am not interested in getting a ‘separates’ system and have given up waiting for an M series 27” model. Can’t fault Apple for thinking differently, but can for stopping making something I actually want to buy.
Apple cares about environmental conservation, which will only increase in the future. Therefore, there is no chance that an iMac will be released, because with a separate display, you don’t have to change the display anymore, you only have to change the Mac.
I was really wanting a 27″ 5K iMac to replace my 2015 model. I looked at the 24″ but just didn’t think it had enough resolution for my needs. I also considered upgrading the internal HDD to SSD but wasn’t sure I wanted to put more money into an 8 yr old machine. So, almost reluctantly, I bought a M2 Mac mini pro and Studio Display. Now after using that combination for a few months, (my main usage is editing photos – usually several hundred a day), I would never consider an iMac, even if they did come out with one. I like having the processor separate and the additional ports on the Studio Display are a really handy feature for me.
24/29. The 29 interesting for small offices. (i.e. Architects).
In the interim it’s obvious AAPL is cashing in on discrete components. Look at every photographer on YT and you’ll find they’re using a 27″ iMac. But no outcry that there’s no replacement. The 24″ is of course an integrated model for education markets. It’s end of the line for OSX upgrade this fall which indicates to me AAPL wants to exit Intel support as fast as it can get away with and push people into the M series. My camera generates 9500 wide RAWS. Why would I look to dropping down as you mentioned. If a iMac ever came out I expect it would be 30″ and a M3 chip in order to drive the price up to their fanciful “pro” pricing. And a few years wait. So I’m really in a bind with my machine that’s now dead ended after only 6 years. And find me a review of the new 27″ which doesn’t mention ludicrous pricing. The AAPL tax is strong on that one.
YES!!!! 27 inch iMac – or Bigger!!!
27” + iMac please!!!!
My late 2013 model is still relevant with OCLP but I would love a new one.
I would purchase in a flash. Thanks for the video
I have a late 2013 27″ iMac and have loved it. I’ve installed additional memory and storage with an SSD. My problem is that I’m limited in upgrading my IOS and feeling abandoned by Apple. I won’t buy a 24″ as my eyesight isn’t getting any better. Thanks Gary for the idea of getting an iMac Mini with a 27″ Studio display.
I got tired of waiting for one on Apple Silicon. Bought a mini and 2 4k monitors. Probably cheaper than the desired iMac.
I had an iMac 21.5″ mid-2011 and died exactly 10 years after heavy work 7/7 days a week almost 15 hours a day. Super. Then, there was no more 21.5″ , so I went to 27″ for only a month after a strange problem with some of my Software. So I change to 24″ screen with M1, Well to 24″ screen suit me perfectly with my work on photographies with all my 7 Software for photos, many are open and use for a single photo. Everything work perfectly well! All this with only my 8GB memory. with an external 2To SSD Memory.
But can we get an upgrade toM2 and more…?
Apple has superb accessibility features for the visually impaired, and the 27” screen make using these a great benefit. On a smaller screen, many of them would be of limited value, and that’s before I think about zooming in when doing photo editing or lining up layouts on posters and fliers. The big screen makes everything so much easier. Apple, please also remember the many silver surfers around now who revel in a computer which is comfortable to use when eyesight is not as good as it used to be. ‘smaller is better’ is not true for us!
Gary, I just sold my late 2015 27″ iMac running Monterey and bought a 2019 iMac running Ventura. The buyer of the 2015 model is happy, and I am too. It was good hearing your thoughts. I’d probably buy a new 27″ (or larger) if Apple comes through.
Apple needs to just take the imac display even from 10 years ago, and make a cheap stand alone display at 27″ that works with macs and pc’s at USD$500 no webcam, forget about decent speakers as external speakers are so much better, apple needs a BUDGET RANGE of monitors! enough of the stuck-up price gouging, If apple stops selling desktops, its will be SOLELY due to PRICING and nothing else! I owned 3 imacs over the years, but I just got a mac mini and an LG 40″ ultrawide monitor, i will never go back to ALL IN ONE IMAC!
I have a 27” since 2018. Why I would downgrade to a 24”? Waiting for the new 27” iMac for a long time. Or larger.
I’m not an editor. Just a writer and normal computer user. But I love the 27” size so I have a mount that hides the mini under my desk. It’ll also mount it to the back of the monitor. Sweet setup for not a lot of money.
