1. I want the 27-inch iMac, and I have been waiting for years for it…. 2. I think the chances are 0, if they haven’t announced something by now. .. 3. In this video, Gary persuaded me to get the Apple monitor and the best available Mac mini. … Thanks, Gary !
Thank you for your video, it corresponds exactly to my problem: I am indeed waiting for an iMac 27 to replace mine from 2013. I will still wait or choose your Mac mini and LG 27 option
I love my 27′” i-mac (10 yrs old). The 30″ option you mentioned sounds interesting. I really appreciate this video. Thank You.
Excellent presentation Gary. I have been a long time 27″ iMac user. I have also been waiting for a new one to come along to replace my aging 2017 model. However after the recent new product reveals confirmed that there was no new 27″ iMac coming, I went ahead and got the 27″ studio display with an M2 Mac Mini Pro and it’s a pretty sweet combo….
I hope so, I’m waiting for the next iMac
I still have a 27” iMac from 2010, but it’s pretty slow compared to my m1 iMac. I love the 27” screen and would love an iMac silicon chip with that size screen.
I still use a 2013 27″iMac and held off on upgrading to a 23.5″ M1 iMac because I consider the screen too small and decided to wait for a 27″ (or bigger) iMac. I am fed up with waiting and are considering a Studio display and M2Pro MacMini. However Mark German reported on Sunday: ” The company is also conducting early work on an iMac with a screen over 30 inches, I’m told”. That is what I want – a 6k 32′ XDR iMac with a M3 Pro chip and adjustable stand at the base 16′ MacBook Pro price point ie $2 500.
Thanks Gary – I’m waiting for a 27″, but I want two screens (currently have iMac 2019 27″ plus home cinema monitor in portrait) so an M3 24″ portrait plus a studio display would suit me nicely. But maybe the M2 mini plus studio display and keep the home cinema
Good points, Gary, as usual. I don’t know Apple’s sales data, but from what I see in companies, if they use macOS, it’s 90 % (27″) iMacs on the desks. Never seen a 21″ in the wild (outside an Apple Store) or one of the new 24″, but some “trashcan” Pros, some iMac Pros (the dark ones) and other than that of course lots of MacBooks (about 50 / 50 Airs and Pros). I guess the 27″ iMac was the sweet spot for many people.
I moved from the iMac 27″ to the mac studio and studio display, which I use with my old thunderbolt monitor. I like the idea of being able to replace components instead of the whole computer, so I would not move to a new 27″ iMac, if one came out.
I have a 27″ iMac now and I love it. I understand the newest version of the OS coming out this fall won’t work on it so I’ll be in the market for a new computer. I *definitely* want another 27″ if I could get one. I have no idea whether Apple will or will not come out with a new 27″
I was a long time user of 27″ iMacs (I had models from 2012 and 2017). The most demanding tasks I use my computer for is photography and a little bit of video production, plus some gaming. The 27″ iMacs were great for those uses, I wouldn’t have wanted a smaller screen (I actually use a 2 monitor setup for photography and video editing). With the shift to Apple’s own silicon, which had so many clear advantages over Intel processors, I absolutely would have gone for an M1 Pro or M1 Max IMac with a 27″ screen, if Apple had offered one for sale.
Since Apple didn’t offer such a beast, I was left with a dilemma about what to do. In the end I bit the bullet and bought an M1 Max Mac Studio and an Apple Studio Display. That setup cost a lot more than my previous iMac-based solutions, but I wanted the improved performance, and luckily I did have enough money at the time.
I do think there is a gap in the market which could be filled by an M2 Pro or M3 Pro based 27″ iMac at a more affordable price than a Mac Studio plus Studio Display combination. I think a lot of people would buy a machine like that. I also doubt it would really affect Mac Studio sales very much. The Mac Studio is such a great computer for people who need a powerful workstation, and the same goes for the Apple Studio Display. They are both great products which would continue to sell well based on their own merits. Just my opinion, obviously, I don’t know all the factors that go into Apple’s calculations. I do also wonder if Apple’s decision not to offer a 27″ iMac so far has been affected by the global chip shortage issues as well, meaning they had to choose carefully where they used the M1 & M2 seies chips that they had available.
I switched from an iMac to a separate mini / monitor for the reasons you mentioned. Ergo I am not looking for any iMacs.
I have iMac 27 for many years, that is what I use now. I definitely want a new iMac 27 or larger screen. Not a fan of the Mac mini and a separate screen.
As an owner of a 2015 27″ iMac I wish they would come up with a new large screen iMac. When my 27″ iMac started to run the fan all the time, I bought a “interim” 24″ iMac (which I like), but I would buy a new larger screen iMac in a heartbeat. I use my 27″ iMac for Photoshop, and the 24″ iMac for internet and eMail. I wish Apple would reconsider offering a larger iMac.
I purchased a 27 inch and July 2019, I really like it. When I replace it I hope they will have a new 27 inch out.
I use a 2017 5K iMac with 2 external displays. I would consider a 24” iMac if it could support 2 external displays. If the M3 iMac doesn’t support that, I’ll go Mac mini / Studio display. Waiting is also hoping the camera in the display will get better.
I finally got tired of waiting for the 27 inch imac and went with a MacMini and the Studio Display. Couldn’t be happier with this solution.
I expect that Apple will announce a 27” iMac in Autumn 2023, with a probability of 2/3.
NO! they make more money selling 27″ monitors with Mac minis or even as second screens with the new smaller iMac.
