The M2 MBA has MagSafe, this is a big plus imo! I wonder why you didn’t mention that. My existing MBA is charged via USBC & I’m on my third cable in 2 1/2 years.
Really? 🤦♂️ please make a video on which socks color should we buy for summer and why
I don’t care about the performance gains of the M2 chip, by I like the sound of the liquid retina screen.
Camtasia video recording/editing, emails, Teams, chrome, phone mirroring – currently have a 2019 Dell XPS 13 i5 8GB 256GB 9380. Which is best/which spec for me…? Travel a lot for work and have an external screen (just the one 😉 ), mouse and 2K webcam plugged into a USB-C dock. Dell too slow/overheating. iPhone 12 Pro Max owner too… help me choose!
The M2 Air is the replacement of the old air. So the same kind of people who bought airs before is who this new air is for 🤷♂️😂
I think I’ll be getting it. I do a little bit of work in Xcode, need to work on some productivity docs and want to play the occasional game. I don’t have many things I need to dongle. Perfect for me.
Bit conflicted on the tone of this. In the opening you refer to the m1 mac as an “aging design” and “due for an update”. Both of these are subjective, and at the same time, probably the biggest complaint I’ve seen from other reviewers about the m2 air is the LOSS of the wedge shape being an ergonomic downgrade. Nothing about the existing m1 air’s form factor screams “outdated”. As mac user, I can’t help but feel that same apple fans just want updates for the sake of updates rather than because its a truly needed update
You missed a 4th group of people, which I fall into. First-time Mac buyers who are buying with the purpose of longevity. After I buy this Macbook, I won’t buy another for years, so the latest version with the latest chip/specs makes more sense to me, and the added cost is an investment spread out across the years I will own this machine.
That 8K de-/encoder block in a Mac Air makes little sense, besides being a PR device…There’s a distinct possibility that people who are processing 8K footage are more likely to actually shell out on the Pro/Max chip laptops for even faster memory… not exactly shell out on beefed up Air… and watching 8K footage on a 13″ screen is not exactly useful as you’re still going to scale the content to the res of your screen at most, unless you’re using the 8K source to crop into the frames… though at the same time, a minute worth of 8K footage would take a lot of space, so a multiminute recording might be more than what your base storage can actually store 😉 The base M2’s enc/dec block should have been kept at 4K but with extended codec list – an AV1 en/decode block would have made a lot more sense when paired with streaming service apps that tend to switch now away from the heavily-patent-encumbered H264/5 for FHD and over, though nowadays mainly 4K, streams to AV1… it would have made more sense and might have made more sense to then have the Pro/Max/Ultra families boost the transcoding blocks from 4K to 8K and above or multistreams…
Considering I’m still using my late-2012 MacBook Pro with 16GB of Ram, 500ssd and that old boy Intel chip… mmm, the M1 seems like a good option, but if I had the chance, I’d go for the M2. Since I know I’ll be using it for a loooong time.
I can’t wait for the 15-inch Macbook Air with the M2 Pro and 16GB unified memory. It’s going to be a homerun! And my next laptop to replace my first gen Macbook Pro Retina (2012).
Why is a 20% increase in price such a big problem for u, when it also gives ´+20% ekstra in performance?? plus we get a whole new design, better screen, better ports and a longer life span with the M2 Air?? You should be stupid not to pay 20% extra for that. And yes, the performance might be simular now, but buying new tech is also for future proofing, so you dont have to spend extra in the future. I think it is quite obvious that you should pay 20% extra for the M2. The only reason not to buy the M2 air is because of its closeness in price to the 14 inch Pro when you spec it up…
I’m going to be using my system for high res rendering with apps like Cinema 4D, VRay, etc. I was initially planning on getting the M1 Pro 14” but when Apple announced the M2 Air I fell in love with the midnight and thinner lighter smaller option.
Do you think the M2 has the power to help me use rendering engines like the above without a hitch?
I have a 2020 M1 Mac Air 8GB. I’m not a power user. No beachballs in two years. Have all tabs open you want, stream, open Word and Excel and PowerPoint. No noise, no heat. Most trouble-free appliance I own. I see no reason to upgrade now, but if I had held on to my 2013 MPB until now, I’d spend the extra money to further future proof the Mac Air I will own for 8 plus years by going M2. There’s never good time to upgrade (FML FOMO), but I have no regrets because I know whatever I get in 6 or so years to replace this 2020 M1 Mac Air will be leaps. Hopefully as far above M1 as M1 was above my 2013 MBP.
Very interesting. I’m so confused I’m moving across from many many years of using a PC laptop to Apple Mac pro or Air and here’s my problems I’m not sure which one to buy. I’ve been looking at either the new M2 macbook pro or the new M2 Macbook Air. I mostly use my Laptop for script writing and photo editing with small amount of video editing and obviously watching films etc on it. But which version and what added memories etc should I go for any advice from anyone would be great thanks.
Yeah I got the 16gb I can’t afford the m2 config for 1600 or so
Surprised you didn’t mention the new 1080P webcam option.
I’m in meetings 5 hours out of the day and a better webcam is highly welcomed
have you even looked at the prices in € ? they are far more ridiculous!
Nice Video!! ..
i will definitely buy one. for my work, it will be my first Macbook ever.
i have a laptop from work (Lenovo Thinkpad/Dell latitude). so if i am buying a new laptop, that is my comparison.
for my home use, just browsing, occasional excel sheets (slightly heavy), backing up files to external SSDs, etc….
I did not find any reviews to compare Microsoft Office on windows vs Mac. but i think the battery will be much better that lets say Dell XPS 13 …
Not sure what a company like Apple can do- they innovate, market and produce some great products during post pandemic, soaring cost times… I agree with your assessment, M1 Macbook Air is still a great deal, and if that dropped in price and they waited on the M2 version – maybe producing colors more interesting options people were hoping for- we’d have all been just fine.
