And I liked first
I love your vids
Macbook Air M2 has an easier time of answering the question of “Who is it for?” than the 13″ M2 Macbook Pro, i legitimately cannot even begin to try to work out who the target market for that laptop is.
Best video out there on this subject.
for me I just like the dark colour, my very stupid opinion 😂
I would like a 15inch screen something.
As you say, MBA M2 sure will be great. But it would be a smart move from Apple to keep prices the same as the MBA M1- and get rid of those tiny 256 gb SSD in the base model.
Mark, you are so right-!!! Firstly, I bought my {very first} MacBook (M1 Air, 2020, on your recommendations; 🥰; thanks), …but I was coming from 36 years {1986} with ‘only’ Microsoft Windows laptops, transition? Yeah, …but same with getting use to ‘anything’ new: car, manual transmission to automatic, new shoes, …new toothbrush.
However, by moving from 2015 HP i3 Windows laptop to the Me MacBook Air is like moving from a 2015 Vauxhall Adam to a Bugatti Veyron, …in other words, though I am a retired academic professor and still do loads of research and writing, I estimate that I use cir. 3% of my MacBook M1 AIr’s power potential, …yeah, this is like grocery-shopping with a Veyron-!!! 😉
Anybody buying an M2 air or any M2 machine should be coming from an Intel mac.
I’m probably going to get one next year. I’m interested to see if my 87W charger could do fast charge on it since I’m not thinking about getting more GPU cores and not interested in paying extra for a charger.
First-time viewer here, I found your voice very soothing. Nice video btw 🙂
Memory bandwidth is the secret winner on this new chip. 16GB is fine for me on my M1Pro because it has that 200GB/s of bandwidth to work with. I can bring the computer to a crawl still but it quickly recovers. M1 had about 70GB/s so you could use all that 16GB and saturate the bus much easier. 100GB/s on M2 is really going to help alleviate those edge cases for people who would otherwise be fine with 8GB and 16GB, and be a godsend for anyone paying up for 24GB.
Any news on the power consumption, battery life and thermals yet?
That was another great video and I think that I am going to stick with my M1 MacBook Air for now, which I really love and it matches everything that I need in a MacBook at the moment.
For those keeping an Air for a few years the cut off point for future new operating systems should be considered. The M1 is a whole generation slower and older than M2.
An M1 model that was released in 2020 is already middle-aged in MacYears
04:00 -should be “economic fallout to due ridiculous government reaction to the sniffles”. A ‘pandemic’ didn’t cause economic fallout.
I love my M1 MacBook Air that I got last year! I almost had FOMO when the M2 was announced esp for the tech specs. But when they announced that you can use your iPhone as a webcam that made me much more relieved
Curious to see how the redesign affects long periods of typing considering the wedge shape of the M1 is incredibly comfortable compared to the MacBook Pro’s.
You know I would have been tempted if I could have upgraded to 32gb of ram. So I guess I will be picking up a 14″ mbp with a M1/2 pro later in the year..
The 14” MB Pro is £1899. If you spec the M2 MBA to the same memory and storage it’s £1749. The Pro has 4 thunderbolt 4 ports, not 2 thunderbolt 3 plus the Pro has HDMI and an SD card slot. Personally, I don’t think that any spec above the base M2 MBA is worth the money and I’m not convinced that the performance is worth the extra over the M1 MBA. Having said that, I do like the Midnight colour and could see people buying it just for the colour. If money is really tight and people need a laptop now, I’d be looking at refurbished M1 MBA from Apple.
