I am still using my 2011 MBP 15″, I have 512 GB SSD + 500 GB SSD, 16 GB RAM, and an external dGPU. It is still a working beast :))
Can I use a macbook pro for 10 years without changing its battery ?
thanks for the information, i think 2011 mac book still worth
“You can find the 2011 MacBook pros for around $100”???? I’m looking at 2012 MacBook AIRs and they’re at least $250.
But I use mercari and not eBay because I never trust anyone from eBay, so please show me some tips to find those lol?
2011 Macs can officially run only up to High Sierra released 3 years ago, which hits end of life this fall. Meaning no more safety patches, no more Safari updates, loss of app support from Apple (latest versions of iMovie and iWork apps not compatible) and other firms. So no, for regular school/collegue tasks there are better choices even from Apple. Make at least sure to get a late 2013 Pro or Air to get full SW support for new Big Sur and at least a couple of years safety patches on top of that. For the tinker the 2011 could perhaps be used to limit GPU to internal Intel HD 3000 and download Dosdudes1’s patcher to run latest mac os.
I am using my 2011 MBP with a 1TB HHD replacing the Optical Drive and a 120GB SSD. Runs awesome. The rest is factory components. I love it so much!
I’m still using my Mid 2012
excellent video. I currently have a macbook pro early 2011 13 ” like the one in the video. Do you think it is better to use Sierra and not High Sierra in this macbook pro?
Sometimes I have the problem that the track pad arrow moves by itself. Also when I disconnect it turns off.
Regards!
Hi I am using 2011 MacBook Pro. Great machine, never had a problem with it until recently, it slowed down dramatically. And I can hear the fan noise every now and again. Do you think upgrading to SSD would help?
I have this exact MacBook Pro with a 512 GB solid state hard drive. I am going back to school online and debated on getting something newer. But just gonna rock with this one. I also have a 2018 12.9 iPad Pro 1 TB that I use as a daily computer but not compatible with my online school
Is it good for video editing?
I have a 2011 15″ bought new in ’11. Running 8 GB RAM. Upgraded from Snow Leopard to Yosemite. Only real issue since new was problems with the graphics which were taken care of in 2014 at the Genius Bar. I use Pro Tools and use a Digi 002 Audio interface so I definitely need the Firewire capability. After reading some of the comments below, I will absolutely be looking into an SSD for this! And, if this one dies, good to know I can purchase a decent used 2011 replacement with SSD drive for not much money!
Still got mine! Also had water spilled on it (back lighting partially destroyed and the connection with motherboard was lost, had to make it fix buy someone for a whopping 200€). HI think I’m on my 3rd battery. Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign (CC) work FINE. The best thing I EVER DID was replacing the HD with SSD. Huge different in graphic loading and what not.
Uhh I think you could’ve still updated your Photoshop version. I have a 2010 MacBook Air on Sierra and used PS 2019 on it and it just stopped getting support, along with the rest of the creative cloud apps.
Still using my late 2011 13″ MBP. Just switched the HDD to 1 TB SSD and added 16GB of memory. It’s purring like a kitten. Hoping to get a few more years out of her. Great video btw!!!
I bought a used MacBook Pro 13” like 2 years ago for like 200. Still working great!!
Dongle.
I have a late 2011 17” MacBook Pro. I got it from eBay in 2017 and the GPU promptly failed about 6 months after I got it. I was just about to toss it out when I discovered a business that had a permanent fix. The repair was reasonable. It already had 16 gb of ram, I just added an SSD and Wham!! I got a monster of a MacBook Pro. I’m running Mojave, its fast, runs cool and quiet and the screen is magnificent. I will keep it until it dies. I also still have a late 2011 15” MacBook Pro that I purchased new in 2011. The GPU has not, yet, failed in this machine. I added SSD and a data doubler (additional HD, why not?) it runs great. I planned to sell one but I think ill just hang on to them for a while. I don’t do any photo or video work, I’m a musician, Logic Pro works great.
Can I use hardcore softwares like Android studio, anaconda, etc. Where I can do my company work I meam can I use it for a day to day company work on it, cause I am thinking of buying a refurbished one.. Please anyone suggest me.
I am buying it fir ₹30k or $500
Still using my macbook 13′ mid 2012, battery is almost a thousand cycle now and will be ready to replace soon. How amazing are the old MacBook because we can upgrade them and use it for years to come.
