I use to own one of those MacBook Pro’s, it was MacBook Pro Early 2011 17inch unibody, unfortunately something blew up inside and left reddish sticky stuff all over of the internal hardware even the RAM
Still using my 2011 MacBook Air and it runs great. I only just recently upgraded to High Sierra.
2011 is probably my favorite. Man I have a 2019 , and this shit is out of control. I hit the “I” key and it does this a lot ” II” …Sometimes my volume wont even work!! I need to restart my computer… I never had these issues with my 2011!!!
7 years later and I still have this MacBook Pro- it’s still working just fine !
I still use my 2011 MacBook Pro! It put me through college and it’s putting me through grad school. I create a lot of worksheets since I’m a teacher and I use photoshop for fun etc. Still works amazing 👌🏼👌🏼
Some drawbacks to these machines are the GPU failure problem, which is the main reason these are so cheap. Also, some apps do not run well on these older machines, and while you can use patches to upgrade them to Mojave or even Catalina, they are sometimes unstable. I am still running a late 2010 17″ MacBook Pro with a 2.8 i7 processor, and 8gb of memory (that is the max it will support). I got it to run Catalina, with some troubles. The first time I upgraded, the keyboard lagged, or had odd spacing between the characters. I did a fresh install, and though it works well enough now, it will not run iMovie, which crashes every time I try to start it. Fortunately it will run Premiere Pro, though none too quickly. A much better machine is my 2010 Mac Pro, which is running dual Xeon 5690 processors, a Radeon 4gb GPU, and 128gb of memory. It is a much stronger beast than the my old MacBook Pro, and can edit 4k video without breaking a sweat.
Still using mine, though have to replace a broken return key.
should i buy mackbook pro 2011 at 15000
sees this on mid 2009 Macbook Pro ;(
I have a Macbook white 2010 with ssh and 8GB of RAM. My daughter uses it for school, internet & Factime/Skype during this Corona-time and it is fine. Foto editing and video editing is nothing you want to do on the 2010 Macbook, though.
I’m still using 2012 MacBook Air 🙂 super
I have a 2018 MacBook Pro but I came from 2015 MacBook Pro and I still have my MacBookPro 2012 and it’s beautiful too. My daughter uses it tho.
You Code? Me too bro that’s so cool!
Using a late 2013 atm it’s great!
holding strong on my 2013 MBP. I’ll keep it as my daily driver until end of 2023!
You know, Apple tends to be pricier than other competitors that can do about the same but one thing I love about Apple is they make stuff to last. My dad is still using my iPhone 4 just fine! My first series iwatch is still going strong that I finally decided to buy a new one bc that thing is never gonna stop working unless I run over it. My Android phone from 5 years ago is a total piece of shit now, an HP laptop I bought in 2013 moves slower than molasses and doesn’t stay on unless the charger is plugged in! Lol Other brands just don’t last
I’m still running my 2010 Mac Pro tower. 12 core 3.14ghz with 32gigs of ram, newer video card of course, but still works well for my audio recording rig.
Yes I wish we could upgrade the ram with stacked memory to 32GB, we can add 2 4TB ssds on the 15″, or 4tb on the smaller 13″, though.
With a egpu 4k editing is actually duable with the rx570 or 580.
There are hacks to allow later mac osx on an external drive are good, and will not brick your external drive.
The reverse is true many apps like classic final cut pro tools adobe apps and logic pro 9 cannot be run on newer macs which are locked to catalina and newer meaning hundreds of thousands of apps will not be able to work, some of those are pro apps, and many will never be upgraded, but if you paid money for them you have to rebuy replacements if you get a new mac.
So it’s good to keep both.
But after a decade a repast of the cpu and gpu is recommended along with cleaning the fan inside.
Got a 15inch 2011 i7 Macbook Pro off a coworker for about $120. Put a new battery in it, and I’m using it for some Web development. Gonna put an SSD in it in a few months.
I have a 2011/16GB/dvd/256ssd. works fine.
I will be upgrading to a 1tb ssd a new battery, and repasting the cpu/gpu cleaning the fans today.
If ssds keep getting cheaper I may put 2 4tb in.
But I really want to test it with an egpu since I have a spare rx 570 laying around, and some are editing 4k seamlessly with that combination.
