Europe calls the ground floor the main floor and next floor the first floor. So their elevators have a floor 0 and a 1 2 3, etc.

I would assume that the reason the floors in the granny game are weird is because in many languages, the first floor is called the ground floor or main floor, and the second floor is often called the first floor, basically considering the ground floor as floor zero.
