I’m a consultant in the construction industry, so I handle a lot of floor plans, contracts, etc. Just to let you know, it’s not weird to call the second storey “first floor”. In all of the building plans I’ve handled, the “first floor’ you’re talking about is always called “ground floor”. The reason being, for example, is that the floor slabs, and beams, for this section of the building are called “ground floor slabs” and “ground floor beams”. Anything above that is considered “upper floor”. So first level is “ground floor”, second is “first floor”, and so on and so forth.

TL;DR
In the construction industry, it goes ground floor, first floor, and so on and so forth. So, Bad Granny isn’t technically wrong
