Pro has better battery, a fan when you need it, a brighter screen and it’s virtually similar in weight. Sure, it’s a bit more expensive, but these are quality of life improvements that I think is worth the extra dollars. If you’re not in the market for these conveniences, then, the Pro is not a better purchase. Your purchase should depend on your values.

What do you value? The lack of worry for battery life because you know you have the longest battery life on a laptop?

Do you value the laptop not heating up at all because it has a fan, and the Air does heat up, albeit way way less than any conventional x86 CPU-equipped laptops but the Pro’s fan is there when say, you’re using your laptop plugged in and your battery heats up a bit due to the charging but it also heats up the entire laptop causing a throttle, or a discomfort when using it on your lap.

You live in a tropical country like me where the weather’s a bit unforgiving without air conditioning, and a fan definitely helps the Macbook out.

How about the extra battery life? Well, since the Air and the Pro are similarly light, I don’t see why I should sacrifice battery life at all. Also, again, since I live in a tropical country, it’s almost always sunny out and a brighter screen of the Pro at 500 nits helps a LOT, compared to the Air’s 400 nits.

The Air has a big trackpad, and anyone will be satisfied with it but boy, the Pro’s trackpad is the biggest for that size and for me, I like my trackpads big.

The only downgrade for me on the Pro is that freaking touch bar. The touch bar can go to heck!

I do all of my Video editing and Beat producing on my MacBookPro M1 and it’s like 🤯🤯🤯 it’s awsome and I’m definitely keeping it for a while!

I got an m1 MBP from the apple refurbished store. It has 512 GB SSD and 16 GB RAM. I love this thing. It is so much faster than the mid 2012 MBP that it is replacing. I’m also still amazed how long the battery lasts. It just never dies. I hope it lasts a long time.

i would still buy the pro because the wedge shape is ugly, and with a fan, I don’t need to worry about thermal throttling which increases its lifespan

M1 MacBook air + 16gb RAM and 512gb SSD, isn’t much more than the MacBook, they also throw in the pre binned GPU. Makes a lot more sense.

Would you recommend getting the Macbook Air with 16gb of ram, or does the 8gb of ram do a good enough job as is? Looking mainly to do audio work with a audio interface plugged in and adobe audition.

I just bought the pro. It may seem crazy, but I knew that missing out on those 100 nits of screen brightness would drive me crazy as soon as I ran into a situation that the screen was hard to see. Not only that but the performance overhead and… I have always been curious about the Touch Bar. Like all tools, it’s subjective to usage cases on whether it works out on an individual level. Lastly, in my own personal use case, I have a pretty powerful iMac at home for the heavy lifting (although this has every chance of being more powerful but I’ve got 40gb of RAM in the iMac so that helps), so this is more of a work machine with light audio editing. Basically a perfect little machine until Apple pulls the rabbit out of the hat a few times and I have to upgrade in a few years. Thanks for the awesome review!

I considered buying the pro but I ended up getting the air after some research. I couldn’t be happier and I also concluded that the minimal performance gains from the pro wasn’t worth the price difference. I also think the Air is more attractive.

I upgraded from my MacBook Pro 2015 16gb RAM and 1tb ssd. I was very skeptical with this machine UNTIL I tried the base model through apple certified refurbished. Oh jeez, this machine is so fast and not stuttering for a single moment in comparison to my old 2015 macbook pro. I hope I could sell this MacBook in the future to get 14 inch model XD
