I live in Australia (aka, damn hot), I purchased the M1 MBP because the device will half the time be operating outside of air conditioning – if you’ve been to Australia in summer you know the air temp IN THE SHADE can sometimes be higher than 40c (104f). The fan may not seem to be worth it initially, but think of it like this – imagine if you were losing 30-60 minutes of time a day just because the MBA couldn’t dissipate heat on a hot day.
I normally get about 4-5 hours working on Premiere Pro and usually have Chrome open, Youtube music and sometimes Lightroom in the background. I would love to get 8 Hours! 😀
Why are benchmarks a major part of this “after 3 months” review?
10 hours….?
I was just thinking more about thermals of Air lately. It can get pretty warm to the touch (top and bottom) during longer load but it’s not something unbearable. Is there a noticeable difference between Air and Pro in this case? For example during that 8K export? Thanks.
I think it comes down to what you were using previously… I owned a 2012 mbp before this and held off from buying anything after the 2016 redesign. I just couldn’t say no to these new M1 machines. This kills and obliterates my last laptop with 16gb ram/i7 and a 1070 in almost every department. Price to performance for me was more than justified given the leaps in technology. The windows laptops at this price range just cannot compete with the MBP at $1300. I personally needed the fan for longer exports and I’m glad I did.
If you can afford to wait then I’d say wait but technology is always improving… if we just kept waiting we’d never buy anything 😆
I am a student. And I’m in need of a new laptop. Looking into macbook air and pro. Which one would u recommend? If I were to say I will only be using it for writing, netflix, making presentations. Watching YouTube videos. Teams meetings. Just the usual student stuff.
My new M1 MacBook has charging issues and won;’t recognise the charger unless I reset the SMC which is really annoying as it is brand new
The Air is a great buy and the one I would recommend for most users but I wouldn’t say the M1 Pro is the “worst value”. I’d argue that the Pro is a good option those who want a 25% brighter screen, better battery life, and active cooling when needed. Also, discounting the Touch Bar by claiming it will be outdated because of rumors is a stretch. It will function as intended for years to come even if the rumors of it going away are true.
Impressive the mba did so well. I bet the air sticks around for a while and the pro gets dropped when the redesign comes out in June/July with more ports etc. I’m toying with buying max mini or mba now. 16g for main computer for 6 – 12 months. (2014 mbp 15” currently)
i like the touch-bar and Jony Ive design, i like linux, so i buy the fires MacBook pro and its amazing, i see more beautiful than the AIR.
This is so much clickbait
If I do get the M1 MacBook Air over the M1 pro in the future I can safely say this video was the reason🙏🏽✊🏽
obvi you’re using FCP…? Adobe remains the big hiccup… idk why apple didn’t loop them in advance.? oh wait.. ‘cause- Apple.. haha
Sorry Mac for sharing my opinion, if you would raise to Ram and SSD Memory of the Macbook pro to the Bacbook pro, then especially your rendering abd upload times will greatly increase. Of course we will have to wait for a full native M1 Adobe Premiere, then things will improve even more
Is apple the best brand to buy in comparison to others like the Lenovo, hp, or dell? I’m looking for the best all round laptop.
In India the base m1 macbook air retails for around 92k/1300USD. Pretty much outshines the competition by a big margin unless gaming is a primary priority.
And everyone keeps comparing the base macbook air with one gpu core less. Withh the extra core I’d say it’s 99% the performance of the pro and you get extra storage for the same price as the pro.
My macbook air often does better benchmarks then the pro initially on the first run.
Max why won’t you address the black level difference in the air and the pro? It is significant and a much more important feature than brightness if you are doing any kind of pro work.
