I’ll wait for the 14” to see the difference if it’s worth it , by that time the 13” might be on sale, we can wait for a couple of months, still to rocking the 2015mbp
I’m waiting for my m1 mbp (16gb-2tb version) to arrive (eta 6 to 8 weeks), now only on my 2nd week of waiting… and I’m thinking of getting an mba 8gb-512gb version to get me started.
Would you advice against getting an MBA at this point, given I have an incoming mbp 13? Will i end up with redundancy when my my mbp arrives? Or can there be a useful real would scenario where I can benefit from having both?
If only it had four ports instead of two. I would have chosen the pro instead of mu gold m1 MBA
Macbook pro vs Air: Better battery life, brighter screen, several percent faster (even a couple percent boost can make a difference if you use it 40 hours per week professionally). I still think the pro is a better computer and a better option if you use it for work, but Macbook Air is an amazing price and a good choice for a lot of people.
I disagree that Apple will drop the Touch Bar. If anything, they’ll offer it as an option. I use it for Logic and FCPX every day! And I love. I also think that the MacBook Pro has a nicer form factor than the Air. Each to their own. £300 is not a lot of money to spend extra when you consider that you’ll probably keep it 4 to 8 years in many many cases.
I have the air while I wait for the new iMac. Im 100% sure I made the right choice.
I went in to buy a MacBook Air after my 2012 MBP started having issues. They didn’t have any stock so I reluctantly spent the extra on the MBP but now I’m in love with the Touch Bar so not bothered at all, plus the extra GPU core doesn’t hurt. (I know I could get the 8 core GPU on the Air, but by time you pay the extra for it you may as well get the MBP.)
Personally think they shouldn’t have called it a Pro. That gives us higher expectations but the performance is roughly the same as the Air. This is really just the M1 version of the old MB. The Pros always had more ports and faster chips, which isn’t here in the M1 MBP. If it was just called a MacBook then the better battery life and brighter screen would be expected but we wouldn’t expect it to be significantly better than the Air. So many of the complaints I’ve heard are about perception. Only one monitor support, no SD card reader, same chip as the Air, limited RAM, only two ports.
You can do lots of work on a mac but damn if you want to play a game your better off with a potato.
My 16/512 MacBook pro is on its way….
Watching on my m1 air😁
518 Downvotes, what the heck is going on? He makes a solid argument, which you don’t have to follow, but it is not a catastrophic video like the downvotes suggest.
If you want to take it for some years (3-4) the pro gives more values in speed (15-20% faster than Air in just a half hour of intense work) and longevity, better with 16 gb of Ram and at least 516 of HD (1 terabyte is the perfection in my opinion). Finally I hope the Touch Bar will remain, I found it very useful and unique.
You can even put a thermal pad on the M1 MB Air that makes it faster than the M1 MB Pro 🤯
Max, I agree with you that Macbook Air is probably a better purchase for most than Macbook Pro. However, I would consider Macbook Air and Mini as equivalent in value, depending on what features are most important for the buyer. On the Mini, having built-in ethernet and HDMI ports takes a lot of pressure off the dual TB3 ports for other uses. For audio production for example, the ethernet port may host a AVB interface, and HDMI + one TB3 port can easily support dual displays.
OMG after I watched this video until end, now I understand the tittle of this video which is not to buy macbook pro M1 because the difference of price between it and macbook air doesnt make it is much better and reasonable than macbook air.. I tought new mac powered by M1 are not worth to buy.. Now im satisfied with my decision for bought macbook air M1 😊
Thank you Max. I am using a Sony a7SIII for video. I can’t work on most of the codecs with my 16 inch MacBook Pro (i7, top spec), neither with Final Cut nor with DaVinci. My daughters entry level M1 MacBook Pro has no issues at all. That makes it an easy choice, if you do video with a 10 Bit 4:2:2 or H.265 codec go for M1.
The M1 Macbook Pro is significantly better than the Air in terms of Audio and Battery. BIG factors if you are choosing a daily driver for work and home entertainment
Meanwhile….. M1X redesign for the MBP is where its truly at!, I’m holding out! I just bought my first apple product in October 2020, that being the iPhone 12 pro, alongside with some airpod pros, looking to get my very first MacBook, but waiting for the redesign this year! Swapped from android after being on it since its inception in the early 2000s with the flip phones! I’m excited.
My main concern about the M1 MacBook Air is the lack of fan and I haven’t really seen YouTubers talk about the potential long term implication of this. If I’m planning on having my MacBook for 5-7 years, like my current MacBook, I’m concerned about how future OS updates will impact performance, especially without a fan to cool the machine
