An iPhone would be a really good long term phone to consider but the pricing for a model with a telephoto camera is just too expensive when you can get close enough camera performance with a former high end android phone for under half the cost.

Nah. Still not a good year to upgrade.
I’m gonna stick with my iPhone 11.
Maybe I will upgrade when there’s an IPHONE XYZ battery powered by Motolite and camera co-engineered by Capsule Corporation.

A few years ago I cared deeply about always having a flagship phone …. like perhaps for a decade. Then something just changed. I now still have a samsung s10 … and it still works great … I feel like I miss nothing. I feel like the golden age of cellular technology has passed (at least for me … likely it is different for younger generations). But I still watch these videos … I find them very interesting 🙂

I totally believe every decision is made to make them more money. Either near term or long term, like your legit take on that AR stuff.
You gotta wonder though at what point they just go too far. Especially with massive inflation around the world and other shit that is happening. Like they really gotta believe that (a lot of) people will continue to spend insane amounts for a certain product ONLY to be able to spend even more on other products.

And that’s where I think they are wrong lol. Yes, there will always be the rich (and/or dumb) sheep that will buy whatever they get marketed right into their brains but I bet the majority will spend their hard earned cash more carefully

At this rate they should have left the notch and focus on bringing something more innovative. I already have the 12 pro max and tbh I think I’m going to upgrade to probably the fold 4 once that drops.

Maybe the iPhone 14 will be at the same price level of iPhone 13 mini, and the iPhone 14 max will be at the same price level of iPhone 13… That’s why they are using same chip.
