Would you buy a M1 Ultra or M2 Max? (Both with 64GB of RAM)
… ‘3d renderers’ … .. this thingsucks at real life 3d rendering… the fact that it is the least sucky apple solution does not make it a GOOD offer … 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Spending more than an hour for a basic video and then moaning on export time as if you would start a new project instant is just not real. So what if the export time is faster.
Now HDMI 2.1 and WIFI 6E
Why do we only associate “power”’with content creators, news flash, many business applications require equal or more power. So over “I am a content creator”
incorrect tests in the video!
It feels weird that your M1 Ultra single core score is 1723 – on my 2020 M1 13″ MBP I get 2371.
I have a late 2018 Mac Mini with the 3.2 Ghz 6 core Intel i7 chips. I’ve been on the fence as to whether I’d want to buy this new Mac Studio, so I figured something that would help would be to run some of the same benchmarks you did but on my Mac Mini. Most of the results are pretty predictable as far as the M2 Ultra crushing me but what’s kind of baffling is when I ran the Black Magic disk speed test, my read speed is faster than the M1 Ultra. Not sure how that’s possible. The write speed of the M1 Ultra’s faster than mine though. Then the M2 Ultra read speed is double what mine is and the M2 Ultra write speed is 3x mine. I mean I kind of thought that the M2 Ultra would be like 10x faster than my Mac Mini’s read/write but it’s not. On the Geekbench scores, my single core was 1401 and a non throttled M2 Ultra was 2694 so I expected it to blow mine away and it pretty much did but not even by 2x. The M2 Ultra really blew my Mac Mini away though in multicore. My score was 5235. The M2 Ultra was over 4x that. The Metal GPU test was laughable. Mine was 6239. The non throttled M2 Ultra was over 200000 lol. In the end as usual it boils down to what will you be doing with it? I’d like to upgrade to something that’s future proof for at least the next 5 years. You’d think there’d be a limitation approaching of just how much faster these systems can get compared to their prior generation. Idk maybe this M2 Ultra Studio is the future proof system that I can keep for quite a while.
try the following for loop code to test if you want⋯⋯see how long it takes to finish
for (a=1; a<=50; a++) for (b=1; b<=50; b++) for (c=1; c<=50; c++) for (d=1; d<=50; d++) for (e=1; e<=50; e++) for (f=1; f<=50; f++) print hello world
I wonder if it can handle Excel files with lots of formulas of about 100mb per file. Has anyone tried? Thanks!
This is not a good technical review. Since whatever technical aspects of performance improvement, you clearly are unaware of how it works or didnt want to spend extra time to research (video releasing deadlines probably had something to do with it I hope).
Secondly, it seems that your target audience are content creators. This should be specifically mentioned, that you are reviewing from a content creator’s perspective.
I know, I probably should not expect it, almost every review of Mac related machines dont go into the development side since its much tougher to benchmark for building code/ML pipelines than just running geekbench.
Why no game benchmarks
Come on, you are the Macrumors guy and got all the scores wrong. Redo this whole video and fix it. Your standard should be higher than a dumb YouTuber.
Even the M1 ultra is WAYYYY faster than my intel 11th gen i9 windows laptop. I was using power director to edit a 17 minute 4k video standard and it took over 2 hours and yes the fans were blasting like crazy. I don’t own a mac, but I now edit on my m2 ipad pro 11 inch using luma fusion and that same video takes about 12 to 15 minutes to export which I am fine with.
m1 ultra scores abt 17000 in geekbench 6, the 21000 score was in geekbench 5
can you tell us the time it takes to run a heavy gpu task to upscale, denoise and sharpen a 4k video using Topaz video AI
There was something wrong with your read speed test for M1 Ultra Macintosh. It is about 6K, too.
*Regarding other test scores,* the issue might be not with throttling (the machine is usually incredibly throttle-resistant, unlike portable Macintoshes), but with some background processes running.
There is a protocol to execute before testing to make sure that this does not happen.
