It’s definitely annoying how high the Euro prices for Apple products have risen. Enough so that I’m leaving the ecosystem even when my job pays for my phone. I just can’t justify getting an overly expensive product that has 7 years of lifespan at most, if nothing goes wrong hardware-wise that is. That latter part is a big red flag as well, because I can’t replace anything in these. My iMac has a problem with kernel panics, Apple can’t/won’t fix it and the hardware can’t be replaced – however it runs Linux 100% perfectly and smoothly. So, it’s high core count Intel and AMD, and Linux from now on.
My feeling on the Apple pricing structure is that by offering a tricked out mini will necessitate a price bump on the next studio , leaving some space in between. This will put the studio in its own price category beyond the mini, and still not even close to the price of a new generation mac pro. The price ladder will then make sense.
Great video Greg. Thank you for doing the video. I have never bought a base Mac. No upgrade path forces us to buy enough power to future proof for a few years. My target is five years. As such my MacBook Pro lasted me seven years! A Mini M2, configured the way I need it to be is around $2,200 that is only $400 away from what I actual got which is a Studio Max with 64GB RAM. I could have gone for the original M1 Mini had it had more RAM. I think the processing power is adequate for what I do. However, 16GB, even 32GB would not be enough for future proofing the Mini or any Mac for my applications. Just my take.
❤great review!!!!!
Great explanation of the line up
Another failed release by apple
Only the basic version might be worth buying, any upgrade is too expensive…I can’t believe that an extra 8GB of RAM costs $200…for a Windows machine I get 64GB of RAM for that money!
So I’m about to order the Mac Mini M2 Pro but I don’t have a monitor, can anyone please recommend me a good monitor which won’t break my bank (£300 max)
Thank you
For someone unfamiliar with the minis is there something one should be aware of when selecting a monitor, resolution, aspect ratio, width/height form factor, hdpi?
8 gig ram is a joke. Try rendering video on less than 16. I have 48 on my old 2009 IMac with dual 3.33 cpu and 8 on Asus graphics card. Yes, it’s a Frankinmac and does a good job. But hay, it only cost me $400 dollars.
Can you upgrade the memory outside of apple official support?
