I really don’t understand Apple enthusiast acting like the company is subject to an unfair bias against them? *Against Apple?* They literally have the biggest marketing budget, the most fan focused channels, the most high profile creators defending them…. The most leverage to give out review samples to people who do favorable content. People reverse engineer justifications for almost any decision they make from $700 wheels to removing the charger.
I mean some products from Apple are scrutinized more than others, but compare apples treatment to any other major tech manufacturer like Microsoft or Google, and they’re treated with kid gloves. Because people, at least in North America, have an almost obsessive cultural affinity for them.
The testing done on The SSD speeds, and on the throttling, or the same kind of test every single major computer manufacturer gets. And even the most critical voices like Max tech, we’re basically just leaving their criticism qualified to the very base model.
And yet the amount of backlash they got for doing a little bit of testing, was cartoonish. Sam kohl, Renee Richards, etc…. I mean how many big apple craters are there that literally, refuse to ever consider a non Apple product for any solution whatsoever: laptops, earbuds, headphones, chargers, cases,…
I don’t even have an opinion on the M2 air, I’m strictly talking about the narrative that Apple has been subject to excessive scrutiny, which is silly on its face. The vast majority of Apple creators refused to even consider the competition.
Great video.

couldn’t be happier with my m1 MacBook Air
This was my conclusion after perusing the M2MBA product page at launch. Could get Pro laptop sooner and with better performance for less than a hundy more.
I have both computers. I have to say, the m1 pro 14 inch macbook pro is an amazing computer. Both machines are 16gb/ 512gb but the 14 inch macbook pro just fees like a nicer machine all the way around. Nicer keyboard, nicer trackpad, nicer speakers and most notably a nicer , brighter display. Its a no contest really. The only thing I like about the m2 macbook air is that it is pretty light to carry with one hand and the balance is nice. Its nice and thin. But it feels kinda cheap when you put the 14 inch macbook pro right next to it. And performace wise, the 14 inch macbook pro is snappier and never really gets bogged down. The m2 macbook air even with 16/512 starts to feel slow when running into swap memory.
Quinn I have no idea why, but that muted National Anthem playing during that one part of your Ad had me ROLLING laughing, thanks for the great Ad read!
I got M2 Air solely for its portability while getting all of its fanciness.
I own a specked 16″ MBP M1 Max and returned the MBP 14″ M1 Pro to get the Air. I tell you, the weight makes a humongous difference relative to the 14″. If owning just one, then definitely not the Air for a geeky user.
Although most of the info was already out there and you could piece the logic together yourself, this video stated everything so clear that you didn’t have to put 2 and 2 together.
I already own a MacBook Pro from 2018 but you’re nearly convincing me to update to the 14” pro when I hadn’t even thought it something I wanted lol
Great overview of the shitty controversy. Agreed with everything.
very nice Grand Seiko !!
I ordered an M1 Air with 16GB of memory and 512GB of storage in my last year of master program, using the educational discount.
It’s the 2nd best purchase I have ever made, only after my iPad Pro 2018.
A fair and well balanced review which took some not too subtle pock shots as some other Youtubers who tend to jump way to conclusions on issues like throttling. I’m. not saying that Maxtech and Luke Miani’s content isn’t useful….it is. But they tend to make mountains out of molehills. I do agree the SSD issue is important enough to warn buyers making a purchasing decision. For example, a friend last week whose kid is going to college asked me to make a recommendation about how to configure an M2 Macbook Air purchase. Knowing what I know from watching videos like this and many others, my recommendation was a 16 GB/512 SSD machine. I consider this machine to be a “Goldilocks” configuration since the RAM is enough for nearly all general uses and the 512 GB SSD will avoid the poor read/write speeds of the single chip design. While my friend could afford the more expensive 14″ Macbook Pro (a machine I use personally), I told him that while that machine is great, it still may be overkill for most 18 year olds except ones who know they will need to use the extra features and horsepower. And the education discount will still knock off $100 off of the M2 Macbook Air anyway. if you want a larger SSD than 512 GB or a 24 GB RAM machine, you seriously need to determine if a MacBook Pro is the better choice.
I want MagSafe and I’m not getting a laptop with a fan. Don’t leave me with many other options.
Youtube compression be like. bruh
This was so well argued. Bravo!
Excellent, thorough, considerate review, a must-watch for anyone unsure of which MacBook might be for them in 2022!
The M2 Air is a major disappointment. The M2 chip overheats, the base config with single-chip SSD has horrible performance issues, the keyboard flex is terrible, the sound quality a step backwards. I have an M1 Air currently and has two 12-inch MacBooks previously and the new M2 Air is bad enough that I won’t be buying one. I’m probably going to pick up one of the last available new M1 Airs with 16GB and 512GB to replace my current M1 Air base model, just because more ram and a bigger SSD should mean the thing last longer before SSD death.
In Mexico, a base model MBA M2 upgraded to 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB SSD is $41k MXN ($2066 USD) and the MBP M1 14″ starts, believe or not, at a whopping $53k MXN, that is, $2670 USD, that’s just incredibly stupid.
So yeah, that’s why I see everyone and their grandma to buy a M1 MBA which is usually only around $800 to $1000 USD while the usual retail price is $1300 USD
The material used for this device reminds me of the Google Pixel Slate… very nice looking and feeling material but, my god, the fingerprints!
