Apple product pricing in Spain and western Europe in general has gone off the rails, I actually gasped when I saw that the base model m2 mba was more than 2,000 euros (slightly more in us dollars) for what you get. At this point owning a decent laptop w the Apple ecosystem (which I love) has become a luxury that less and less people are able to indulge in. My 2018 touchbar mbp is starting to irritate me (took me 5 mins to write this bc of sticky keys) but at this point idk if I can justify spending 2 grand on a new laptop after having mine for only 4 years.

I’ve waded through so many excuse videos – oh, you should just ignore Apple’s marketing about how powerful it is for creatives and
mainly just use an Air for surfing/office work like most users do and limit the number of tabs you have open in the web browser, etc. Your review was vastly less affiliate-link-sales cringeworthy and more helpful to us than many, but

It’s not that it thermally throttles… it’s that under load it his 108 degrees Celsius in less than 30 seconds – what about people in hot climates?

Everything is soldered to the main board, you can’t replace components, repair will be expensive; take out Apple Care if resale is important to you and you don’t want to risk (yet another) expensive dead Apple paperweight. If you’ve not had that problem, great, don’t just dismiss those of us who have.

Also, though even the thermally throttled performance is certainly good, get a fan cooling base if you’re going to use this for more intensive tasks. It won’t help hugely but a bit. Don’t do the thermal pad mod as it – I’m told – aside from making the base toasty, transfers quite a lot of heat to the lithium batteries beyond what they are specced for, potentially reducing their life expectancy. I’d be interested to see what Louis Rossmann, Apple repair channel extraordinaire, has to say about all these mods/a tear down to ponder potential life expectancy of parts, in general, with the new Apple silicon.

Thank you for mentioning the keyboard/flex/trackpad downgrade, so to speak, and for pointing out why it would be sensible to go for the 16GB/512GB model to work around some of the performance issues and reasons why people might want to go the M1 route, instead. Some of the better review channels have done that, too, and you are certainly up there with the better ones.

Loving my M2/24GB/1TB Midnight MacBook Air M2. Had the M1 14″ but was just a bit heavier in comparison. Excellent portability, significant future proofed memory and storage were keys for my selection. Added dBrand skins for protection and grip-ability and I’m good to go.

Extremely fair analysis. I wonder if Apple was forced to go to 256GB ssds due to supply chain issues. The M2 actually makes a used M1 an extraordinary value at $650 ish on eBay.

ok you just solidify my choice in my recent purchase of the 2nd hand m1 macbook air when i found out they weren’t changing the base price…. i mean i can’t use a laptop that has all that power for gaming… then what is the point of it…. i just need a good light portable machine that has no moving parts and it is powerful enough to enjoy things with….

The Verge and MKHBD basically said the same thing- great computer with that issue of the ram unless you upgrade it and badly priced. I got an M1 Air when they first came out. Love it. Very curious to see how things progress over the years. I’m sure they’ll be on the M6 or 7 by the time I upgrade again in ~ 5 years from now.

I don’t know how many times I have to say this but DJ Sazzy literally has the best hands down concise and logical channel.

Every time you can tell he does his research and stands above by his journalism and speaking.

He has numbers but doesn’t base them strictly on them nor does he make the review only about them but explains to you when the numbers are this way.

I thank you what you do for YouTube and the Mac community. Keep up your excellent reviews.
