In regards to your keyboard issues, I think your model may be genuinely defective. My personal model does not have any deck flex and the keys are a bit more stable similar to the macbook pro and feel really nice!

Full agree with this. I bought an M2 air and the amazing speed of the CPU makes the slow hard drive lack of ram really apparent. Every time it ran out of ram it was like hitting a brick wall.

Most apps I use are web apps which suck up a huge amount of RAM and even looking at cutting them back, switching some to less RAM intensive desktop apps I found it freezing in Teams calls. This is something my 2017 MacBook Pro didn’t do.

So I returned it and bought the base level MacBookPro 14 which was reduced in price.

I hope they up the base level RAM/storage in the next Air iteration.

But glad I did. This was really good.

I disagree with your claim that the m2 air isn’t much of an upgrade over the m1 air. The display and webcam are very meaningful improvements. The speakers and MagSafe are nice too.

I agree that the keyboard is a step back, and the base model SSD performance is super disappointing.

I’m happy you point out that the 14” MBP with 16/512 is only slightly more expensive ($100 or so) than the m2 air with 16/512. The pro is definitely a better value.

But for many people, the extra power of the pro is irrelevant, but the increased size and weight is. The m2 air has a fantastic form factor for a lot of people.

Anyway, now that you’ve posted this really well done review, I hope all of the hastily made video reviews that other YouTubers posted last month get taken down. People shouldn’t waste their time with them. This is the only review anyone needs.

man, something is twisted with your export settings.. Sometimes your 4k looks worse that regular 1080p like at 4:25, where the quality drops mid shot. I first thougt, my quality automatically set itself lower but reloading did’t do it.

Just do either RAM or SSD upgrade, but not both. That puts the M2 Air in the $1400 range. Still expensive but you probably don’t need both upgrades. 16GB will prevent swapping for most work or 512GB SSD to deal with the swapping on 8GB. My M2 doesn’t really break a sweat w/ 16GB + 256GB config.

I actually watched that ad all the way through. Normally I skip through them. Painfully because it’s a new company/product that I haven’t seen YouTube ads for, and the ad style was new for Quinn’s style. His funny mannerisms made me want to know how he was going to deliver it and be funnily genuine.

That extra $100 isn’t a fair comparison, because that MBP comes with 8gb memory and 256gb storage.
