This is the first of your videos that I’ve seen. Good job. It’s extra interesting following the reviews I’m seeing for the M2 MBP. My 1st ever bleeding edge computer was the M1 MBP which I got right after its release. I just couldn’t stand the roaring fans on my 2015 i7 15″ MBP anymore. The M1 MBP was a dream except one thing … PORTS!!! That part was a nightmare. I tried several various dongles to plug in my three external drives and my HDMI 4k monitor. They would all randomly disconnect and even managed to corrupt my Time Machine drive so badly that I couldn’t repair it.
I got the binned 14″ MBP Pro as soon as I could and I haven’t looked back. The only upgrade was the 1TB SSD. It has functioned flawlessly. I’ve managed to make the fans run a little bit while editing photos but I couldn’t hear them. I have not yet done any video work on it yet since my need for that has mostly gone away.
Seeing the reviews of the M2 MBP, I’m ultra-glad I didn’t wait for that. But I got the M1 MBA for my wife when I got the 14″ for myself and now I kind of wish I’d waited on that in order to get her the M2 MBA with magsafe. But otherwise, the M1 MBA exceeds all her needs by a huge margin. So far, the 14″ MBP is also exceeding my needs.

Same for battery but maybe it’s because the screen brightness 🔆 and aslo maybe we are a little bit too much battery obsessed
RE crashes in clamshell. Are you using a caldigit dock by any chance ? I (and others) have had issues with these, especially if you are using ethernet !
I just got myself this computer, and coming from a 2019 i9 16inch, this laptop is amazing. NO HEAT AT ALL, and incredible performance!
My 14” M1 Pro also spends a lot of time plugged into a dock with multiple displays and peripherals. Battery capacity is 96% of original after 7 months. Are you using the Optimized Battery Charging option in macOS Battery preferences, to preserve battery capacity by limiting the charge level on AC power? I use the utility Al Dente to manually limit the charge level to 80% on AC. Either way you can make it top off to 100% charge on demand. Also, do not frequently drain the battery to 0%; that, and high heat at 100% charge, are major contributors to reduced battery capacity.
Also, you said the battery has a “maximum” number of cycles and it is 1000. But that number is not a maximum; the battery doesn’t just die at 1000 cycles. What Apple says is that the battery is designed so that at 1000 cycles, it still has at least 80% of its original capacity. If it drops below 80% during your warranty period, they might replace the battery under warranty.
I have seen some reset issues when docked, but they are random and infrequent. The current uptime for my M1 Pro is 14 days.
I agree that the 14” screen size is a sweet spot, and I’m happy with the overall performance and experience (cool and quiet). This is the right model for me.

Gold standard 🙂 been waiting to make this particular 14 MBP my main setup for a couple of months now, after years of being a devoted Windows user. I’m constantly convincing myself it won’t underwhelm my expectations.
$11 for the wallpaper LMAO
Which dock are you using? The one under the table, looks really good
this is silver or dark grey?
If budget wasn’t an issue, would you opt for the 16″ 32 core 64gb or would you stay with the 14″ 16 core 64gb?
Well… your battery degradation comes from your docked usage (often sticking to 100% or often topping up to 100%?)
Im also using my 16″ M1 Pro base model often docked, BUT: I am using AlDente and limit the charge often to anywhere around 50-70% and if i really need more battery i just let it charge additionally.
Often im just charging it once to 50-80% or rarely 100%, but then im basically setting the AlDente limit low (so on AC usage im not wasting battery and it takes me multiple days battery usage to get lower in battery level)
If im anywhere close to 20 or 30%, sometimes also 40-50%, im charging up again to 70% or so.
I avoid 100% as good as possible, that the key thing to preserve a battery as good as possible.
Only annoying thing to look after… the battery management just sucks (and doesnt allow to read out the cell voltages). For a proper balancing you need to charge it up to 100% and sit there until in activity monitor it says “charging completed” instead of “finalize charging. I do this about every 10-15th charging cycle or here and then to make sure its not too unbalanced which could really hurt your battery!
Also, im not using the included 140W charger.
The magsafe cable gets warm, the notebook itself gets warmer, especially the area where the battery is gets 36°C+ fast (which is normally cold). I though since the first and nearly only use of the original 140W brick that it will hurt the battery in long term (as very fast charging usually does)
Im only charging my 16” model with a 65W/45+20W dual charger… even with 65W its charging very fast, only if i charge with 45W im sometimes running the battery very slowly down in percentage under consistent heavy load.
Even with 65W im just full within 2 1/2 hours and the first 60%+ are easily charged within 1 hour!
Gold standard 😀
How many charge cycles are on your Macbook battery?
After OLED displays can’t move to mac back, huge difference
Sadly, I’m still on my 2018 15” MacBook Pro. And it just died the other day ;(. So am thinking about the upgrade but luckily I am somehow able to use my 2021 iPad Pro for most things but really do miss my MacBook. The logic board apparently needs replacing so might as well save up to get a new MacBook instead :D. oh and GOLD STANDARD.
Sceenastate. Nice!
Those nails 😳 holy shit!
Thanks, I am considering getting one; I also plan to dock it up as my primary.
