fast charging ain’t good for the battery. neither is keeping it plugged in to a charger all day. no surprise your battery has weakened.
Did you test multiple SD cards to ensure the issue wasn’t with the card itself? I have had mine for ~3mths working 18hr days and have not had any issues.
Thanks for letting us know about the clamshell usage issue… Much appreciated! I wonder if it also happens to the MBP 16 inch M1 pro…
I’m waiting for the 3nm M2 MBP14. My 2011 MBP15 still got maybe another year left in the tank and I also dont wanna get the first iteration product as those always come with issues like this guy is having with his battery.
juuuuust picked mine up today and I’m moving from an old i7 27′ iMac. haven’t had a lot of time to play with it but saw your video hoping to assuage my feeling of buyers remorse. definitely some stuff to look out for and I appreciate the heads up. but I’m looking forward to seeing just how much more I can get out of this notebook. thanks so much for your insight!
I was contemplating on the size and colour, wanted a 16 inch silver but they only have 16 inch space grey where I’m at, so I got that. Now having doubts about the colour, can’t describe the feeling now that I’ve used it.
Why did you chose space grey though and did you buy Apple Care for the laptop and your other Apple devices?
Damn… My MBP 2017 only has a 3 year old battery. I can now only use it on battery for 30 minutes. Apple says this is normal…..
Apple throwing away all the ports was beyond stupid and now they have returned to some sanity and put most of them back the omission of usbA is equally stupid because 90% of us still use it, nobody wants to use a dongle which is even more true for the Air but non ‘Pro’ users don’t need ports anymore apparently.
Does anyone know if it would be possible to boot up my old OS 10.13 system from an external drive on the macbook pro, incase I need to use some old software? I still have a 10.9 system too, I think I still use that more than the 10.13 :p
For the last 10 years i’ve been using the 15″ MacBook Pros (2012 and 2018 models) and my biggest gripe was how big it felt when in transport. Before we were forced by apple to buy the larger screened MacBooks if we wanted optimal performance for video/photo editing and other GPU heavy tasks. Thankfully we no longer have to compromise on performance (noticeably for a good majority of tasks) and the 14″ fills that sweet spot of being not too big yet not too small and with enough power to be a legit mobile and for some, desktop, workhorse. After selling my 2018 15″ and buying an M1 Pro 14″ and have been extremely happy with performance. It handles all my work effortlessly and the quality of life performance have been a real game changer for me. I use this thing 90% of the time in clamshell mode and i have yet to experience any issues with it. I am constantly shocked at how silent this thing is, seriously! My girlfriend uses a windows laptop for her work and that thing sounds like a get engine going off and she’s just using Excell and Word while i’m transcoding 458 proxy files with barely a hiss.
I doubt its battery degrading but more apps are being updated and having fully utilized the M1 chip.
yeah the SD Card reader on my Macbook Pro 14″ also doesn’t work properly! i don’t get it!
I don’t have numbers to show but it FEELS like my 14inches battery has gotten noticeably weaker after 3 months. Used to take 1-2 hours using FL studio for my percentage to get to under 90, now it’s 30-45 minutes.
Have the same clamshell mode issue with the MacBook
Thx for the video. I thought about getting one or waiting for the new edition with M2 processor.
Thinkpad have the best keyboard.
Which one you choose? M2 macbook pro Or M1 pro
Can u help after your experience please
Gold Standard! I’ve had my 14″ MBP base with 1 TB since last December and love it! I came from a 16″ MBP Core i9 and the 14″ is just so much better! I haven’t had much issues with it, but I’m not docking it a lot. I primarily use the screen itself since it’s so nice and portable. Wish it had a USB A as well, but can’t have everything.
Yes had similar issues, SD card slot being weird and it getting what hotter in clamshell mode, that much that is just leave it open when docked. I am happy however that I went with 32 GB.
My 2019 Intel MBP crashes pretty much every night in clamshell mode when plugged in. I’ve had to start unplugging it from the charger each night to stop it. Quite frustrating, but it probably does the battery a favour as you mentioned.
