Al Dente is a great battery app to keep your MacBook topped off at 70-80%. I’ve had my 14” MBP for 5-6 months and my battery health is still at 99% and maintains a steady charge and keep it plugged in most of the time. Hope this helps some people.
My battery only has 93% capacity left though! 😡
Gold standard
I just purchased it for college studying design and I hope it doesn’t fail 😅
Check what background processes are draining battery. I don’t think it’s because the battery is worn out.
It’s possible that an clean install of MacOS will get the battery life back.
For the people that are contemplating buying this machine: some rumours have been spreading about Apple releasing their M2 Pro/Max 14”/16” line-up in Q4, so before the end of the year. If they do you can either get that one, or get the M1 pro/max machines for cheaper (maybe even refurbished).
And if you can’t wait a few months and desperately need a machine before then, you can always trade it in and upgrade to the new ones later for a discount, if the new ones are worth it that is.
So that is not an issue. Issue is that you are impatient. You gotto work on that instead of calling a flaw on the device haha. As for battery I don’t have the same issue. Something wrong with Software maybe. Restore it fully to the new settings and see if it changes? Good luck
Gold Standard!!! Honestly I do light 4k video editing and will mostly use this for college next year, so I think I’ll go with the same configuration as you did. I’ll attempt to be careful with the battery, but knowing me within a week I’ll forget 💀.
Hey, you should use amphetamine to fix your docking/charger issue. It tells your laptop not to sleep while in clamshell mode
I have the 16 inch in clamshell mode nearly all the time and never had those issues. Maybe it’s more common on the 14 inch. The MacBook Pro M1 is to date the best laptop apple ever made. Nice review.
Just Subscribed!! YAY!!! Gold Standard to be sure !!
I have the M1-PRO 16″ with 32GB RAM and a 1TB SSD. It does everything I need to do effortlessly. I frequently have a dozen apps open spread across 5 to 7 desk tops plus Safari with 20+. tabs open. No problem. It never stutters, hesitates or acts at all slow or sluggish. My battery only has 45 cycles on it so no surprise it acts like new.
Deciding between M2 air (upgraded for 16bg ram and 512gb) or base M1 Pro 14″. Probably getting M1 Pro
I bought a 14” MacBook Pro in 2016 and it still kicks ass.
What did you do about the sd card not working? I’ve had the same issue with my unit.
Battery is the elephant in the room nobody wants to even look at. Mine is a 14″ 10/24 core 32GB 1TB unit and I got it in mid December.
Since then, inexplicably, knowing I have taken the thing out of the studio a total of SIX times and let it run flat ONCE, I now have 87.8% capacity and have somehow been through 29 cycles. How is that possible in less than 7 months?
My wife’s M1 MBP is TWO years old and she has it off mains constantly and it is STILL at 100% battery capacity!!
I am going in tomorrow to demand a replacement because this is simply not good enough – I paid $5k for this thing and the battery doesn’t even last 6 hours off the AC despite running nothing even remotely labor intensive given the tasks. Not good enough, Apple… cut the crap.

Gold standard 👏👏
Any idea how long it would live if the fans died?
Your battery degredation might be actually an app or a rogue task
Have you checked your battery health?
Try it in a safe mode. I don’t know if mac had one
So you got the wrong laptop for your needs, 16gb vs 32gb ram and then have it as a negative bc you couldn’t wait and then you are reviewing it. Sounds silly. Get the right unit for your needs then review it
