One of the other videos mentioned that the reason why Apple went to a single NAND chip is because they no longer produce 128GB chips, so they can’t slot in two 128GB (I’m not sure how accurate this info may be, maybe it’s their supplier?) and hence use a singular 256GB chip.

Apart from the price the most disappointing thing about the M2 MBA ist the fact that you can still put only one external display to this 2022 laptop! Even the MacBook Air from 2012 (10 years ago!) and most Windows laptops are able to connect two displays.This is really a shame….

It might be only about $200 more than M1 in your market, but in other markets there might be something else in play… for example in Poland about upon M2 release the older M1 product stacks got raised pricing – from M1 Air to M1 Max Pros the hikes were between $250 for the lower models to over $500 for the Pros, Maxs and higher M1s. And then the M2 pricing went on to another $250-300 over the corresponding M1, leading to M2 16GB 1TB models to pricing nearly the same as what was previously occupied by promo-codes 14″ M1 Pros with same RAM and storage capacities. This in turn makes the M2 devices far less enticing, with the overall laptop fleet going high in prices. Maybe there will be some back-to-school worldwide price cut/drop or black friday/christmas/end-year deals to make them viable again and finally, but at current pricing its a hard sell this M2.

It’s more absurd when the M1 Air goes on sale for $850 and 99% of Mac bias reviewers are recommending for you to pay $1500 for the M2 Air because they all acknowledged that the 256GB version is handicapped instead of recommending you buy the M1 Air on sale.

The M2 Air is a misstep from Apple for sure. Just hold on to your M1 air’s and Pros. The reduction in SSD speed is absolutely insane considering the price of the laptop.

Very fair assessment. I agree with you. The M2 Air is better on battery life, and when configured with 16GB/512GB, it will ALWAYS outperform the M1 Air, for the base model, it’s just not worth the price premium. As your tests show, most people will be better off with an M1 Air with 16GB/256GB or 8GB/512GB for the same price.

People who will benefit from the video encoders on the M2 are the exception. But then they’re probably going to want 16GB/512GB or more, and that’s going to start at $1600, which puts it within $200 of the 14” MPB with 16GB/512GB on Amazon and some other retailers, and for those users, the 14” MBP is probably a better option.

i will the macbook air m2 16 256 as i need more ram than storage and in my area apple increased the price of m1 by 100 dollar rather than keeping it the same

I know this video is a few days old but I been seeing big sales for the M2 Air including 200$ off on one site if I’m not mistaken. I know I definitely seen a 100$ discount at Amazon and B&H. Kind of surprising for a new Apple product
