There is a golden rule in electronics: skip the generation issued after jour purchase, I mean after M1 air skip the following generation, buy the next one.
the M2 is, as you mentioned, an update for the stock exchange/analysts that expect that every year you come out with a new product.
do you remember INTELf – TIC-TOC generation update? it was implicitly exactly that, a way of saying: ” during the TOC phase/generation do not expect innovation”….
Most of consumers do not now it….
there is also a secondary rule which not always applies: never buy first generation of a new product, in the M1 case of apple doesn’t apply because it was deeply thought and it was the base of the Apple future existence so it couldn’t be a failure, it should have shocked and shown the innovation capabilities of Apple.

people who buy the base model won’t be putting to to the extreme, most of the tests on YouTube are unrealistic and stupid. If you are a creator and need the power then you get the upgraded version or you get the MacBook Pro. These videos are stupid…. “oh my M2 isnt as powerful as a pro” Yeah no poop lol….. Also the m1 design. is OLD…. this new design is worth the extra 200

The M1 air with 16gb ram and 512 gb ssd costs me around 1500 Euros, the M2 Air with the same config costs almost 2000 Euros just the same as the 14 M1 pro. I have started video editing as a hobby and currently use my desktop pc (R5 5600x, 3080, 32gb ram) for that but I want something as well for the go since I am often on the go. Which model would you recommend me? I want to keep the device at least for 5 yrs.

I have the 8 cpu / 8 gpu M1, and it’s hands down the best laptop I’ve ever owned. I bought it refurbished and felt like I paid the right amount for it. I’m not willing to spend 50% more for the M2.

I’d love MagSafe, but other than that, I don’t really need anything else. Maybe the refurbished price will change my mind?

A $1,200 computer shouldn’t come with 256GBs of storage, especially when it’s half the speed of the previous model. Apple is charging $200 to upgrade to 512GB—the 256GB NAND chip is a $3 part. I’ll just keep my M1 MBA until there’s a viable reason to upgrade.

I don’t think that this M2 Air is for anyone who is thinking about performance. The M1 Air is for anyone who is focused on price and trying to get the best laptop they can. The M2 is for someone looking to have the thinnest laptop apple makes and is willing to pay for it.

I love my mac air m2 it’s so amazing. just switched 2 weeks ago from windows my whole life. this laptop is a beast, I’m a soft engineer and can fully utilize this laptop and be super efficient… midnight is sexy

I also just but the M1 MacBook Air after watching a lot of reviews about the new M2 Air. I bumped up to 16g and 512 SSD. Future proofing this beautiful machine

I can’t stand the… crate design. I went with money in my pocket to buy the pro and bought the AirBook M1 tapered design. This is a step backwards in design.

My M1 air lasts me all day… 8 hour work day and i’m down to 50% battery… 16 hours is not bad. I agree completely the M1 Air is the better laptop. Coupled with the faster chip that uses more power and a much warmer laptop. I’ll take the M1 that I can throw whatever i want at it and it never gets warm. It amazes me that Apple released a new laptop that is not worth upgrading to.
