The M2 air would have been better but the price hike makes it not good. I have a 16inch MBP M1 max 32gb/2 tb and a m1 MB air 16 gb/512gb hd I use the M1 air for live performances so it can get beat up a little and be light in a bag. I was going to update to the new M2 air so wouldn’t have to carry a dongle at my shows. But by the time I update the M2 air to 16gb/512gb hd like my old M1 air. It just makes sense to buy a base 14inch. This is the problem the M2 air has if you buy the base it’s better to buy the m1. If you update it it’s better to buy the 14inch MBP.

I bought a maxed out M1 MBA – 16gb & 2tb – in early 2021 with the hope that a future MacBook Pro would have a significant improvement. After only a few months of use, I realized that the M1 MBA & then subsequently the maxed out M1 MacMini solved all my computing needs. Unless a near future MBA comes in a 15″ version, I will not need/want to upgrade (I still use a 2015 15″ MBP for my office/executive day job). I will skip at least the M2, and most likely a M3 MBA/MBP.

Haha, anyone who looked at a couple of reviews knew the M2Air was a suckers deal if value is an important ‘feature’ to you, I just went and bought a second hand mint condition M1air for half the price and its amazing. The only major flaw is the lack of ports, you have to be a ‘Pro’ to get that ‘feature’, can you imagine needing to use ports as a way to up sell their customers? Pathetic!

Terrible review. The conclusion is “not a good computer because I’d rather have a 16gb M1 because they’re the same price and roughly the same speed, and I don’t care about all of the other improvements.

So go pay the same amount for the older computer that runs the same speed without all of the updated features.”

I don’t think the lower writing speeds are a result of apple cutting costs. I understand that it has become cheaper to produce 256GB chips than 128gb chips these days. However, the fact that apple is always super conservative when it comes to storage or memory is another story (5gb iCloud, 256gb base storage in 2022, 8gb ram on mbp etc)

The tapered design is so much better to type on, but the rounded edges of the iPhones and iPads where more comfortable and they got rid of it. We went from Ive’s form over function to function over form. I am okey with it, eventually I will have to make the switch like with the iPhone. But I pray they keep the tapered option for as long as possible, I mean if they could keep the second gen for 10 years they could.

Thanks for this refreshing take on the M2 Air. It’s not that you have to love it or hate it. It’s just frustrating how they cheapened it while making it more expensive… peak Apple manipulation.

Thank you for the review off-brand MKBHD.

I kind of disagree with you on most of the directions this review took to overview the laptop based on some of the examples used.

First, the MacBook Air is specifically designed for a student-esque type of person. Even a home computer for the couch, or kitchen. Not a professional, or anything to do with high performance. So let’s start there.

The M2 has completely blown away my expectations of battery life. I can do intensive coding through VSC, have Notion up, any number of terminal windows, chrome(5 tabs) and my mail on a second desktop and I can make it 12 hours, no problem.

Additionally, in my opinion – the midnight MacBook Air might be the best looking piece of hardware Apple has ever engineered. Sure, the notch is noticable, but it’s a gripe, not a decision making factor.

This review focused on performance and “wanting an older laptop back” – giving some sort of impression that the M1 MacBook Air was a superior model. The M2 MacBook Air will satisfy and even impress 98% of customers.

How do the keyboards feel? Last time I tested a MacBook at all it had the butterfly keys and I wanted to BEAT THE CRAP OUT OF IT to get any typing feel that wasn’t like typing on a piece of concrete. Are they anywhere near the feel of the mid 10 to mid 12 pros?
