yep. If the base model was cheaper, or the base model started with 512 GB, there wouldn’t be any problem with it tbh despite the thermal issues as well. But the way it is it just isn’t worth it at full price

Can you compare the M1 Air w 16 GB RAM and 256GB SSD with the M2 Air w 16GB RAM and 256GB SSD? would the M2 Air now be faster than the M1 Air?

wedge design is best and more comfortable. M1 Air is Better than M2 Air.

Thank you Miles for doing mentioning that Apple got greedy again. If this MacBook was cheaper or even the same price as its predecessor, maybe I could justify the slower SSD. But not when it’s more expensive!

I got a M2 Air about two weeks ago not a base config. In general I’m happy with it but a couple let downs. I got it for my music practice and lessons space and it’s supposedly will run some iOS apps. First disappointment none of the iOS apps I use are available for M-series OSX. Second disappointment is the camera the videos look kind of washed out and a bit fuzzy compared to my iPad and older iMac all with same HD camera. So have to call Apple about the camera. I wanted a physically small laptop for where it will reside and from that standpoint it will be good and the screen is excellent. Sound for a laptop is good, but will probably use headphones with it. So its good laptop for general purpose tasks. I did look at the MB Pro’s but a similar config would of been between $800 and $1000 more.

Nice review. I bought a i7 MBA about 6 months before the M1 release and really wish I had waited. The M2 MBA base model is really a disappointment compared to the M1 and the cost is a bigger disappointment. I will just keep what I have for now. I really like the wedge design.

There are 3 types of people:

– Who buys based on price only (won’t even consider a M2 MBA);
– Who buys based on design (M1 does not stand a chance against M2, it has a 10 year old design);
– Who buys depending on future use but not caring to much about price.

So the question people should really be asking is: IS THIS LAPTOP GOOD FOR YOU? Not for 9to5Mac, or other technology site, but FOR YOU?

I returned mine after 8 days. I went with the MBPro m2 instead. Just because of the fans it has. Helps with the performance and only $100 more. M1 MBA was my favorite. I should have never sold it for the M2 MBA

I disagree with the way this is framed. Apple offer the 999 MBA for people who want the Chelsea’s Mac portable and then a M2 MBA which is a better machine. It’s all about options and choices.

Jumping on the hate the M2 wagon? now, that is disappoint. When the M1 Air launched recession, gas prices where decent and the was no war in Europe. Tremendous amounts of uncertainty is making everything go up. It was this launch price or no launch. I think youtubers have lost touch with the everyday users. Just the magsafe and the redesign is worth it.

Just bought the M1 Air Base model. It can do all what i need and sometimes its also alright for editing a vid on the go. So decision was easy to make. Was interesting to see your experience there, cheers mate.

You should have also added in the title that “My workflow requires pro macbooks”. M2 for basic use is totally fine. Also, there are people who’d love to go with M2 base as mentioned by you that it was noticeably slower than 16gigs M1 air. I’d rather go with new design and some small changes with the *Only* noticeably slower M2 Base machine

I bought a base m1 Mac a few weeks before the m2 launch for $650 . Works good enough for me I just wish I didn’t get the gold color. It looks almost pink
