First I am with you, for me who most of the time do not go for GQ look over function feel that the NEW Apple laptop with no name on the product should have come out as the Apple “MacBook”. For us normals my hope is that Apple keeps the Jony, and Steve MacBook Air design around as a SE entry level $ 999.00 version of the MacBook Air. Love the Apple M1 MacBook Air design feel in my hands, and wedge design while tying on the keyboard.

Just keep the M1 MacBook Air design with the previous version M series SOC for normals who just do things like eMail, surf the web, and watch your YouTube type clips.

I wanted an XPS 13 Plus at £1000 as well but the 16GB/512GB OLED is nearer £2000! Maybe we are ignoring all the stuff around us and are ignorant to the true costs in the world at the moment, like inflation, supply shortages, transport costs, wars, COVID, etc? Maybe we are ignoring that all new designs are higher in price than a six-year-old design as they have to recoup the R&D, tooling and manufacturing setup costs in the first 1-2 years. Maybe we are better to let the people that know what they are doing decide on pricing and then we decide to buy or not?

I think a lot of the problems listed are not understanding the dynamics of hardware, not only does removing the wedge give you the ability to fit more battery but more important allow you to use fewer cell layers resulting in a longer lasting battery as far as how many years it will last, but for the speakers, the speakers are a huge improvement because the sound is now from in front, before it was coming up from the table surface due to it being on the keyboard, but now can do better spacial audio and can get louder to the person using the device as the entire screen is acting like a reflective speaker.

the think is casual users witch are the target of the air wont do any hard stuff that the machine will have to use ssd virtual memory. also if you really want to use the air for a more heavy workflow most likely you will bump ram to 16GB with will help with how many time will jump to ssd virtual memory and also most likely wont stick with base add. when it came out I was thinking 16gm ram an 2tb ssd to pick up to future prove it

This machine is so unappealing. Even the design! I love the more block aspect of it, that is kind of like the pros. But the colors are boring, midnight is terrible, it looks gorgeous, until you touch it… and boy, that notch is horrendous, I can’t get over it, and for some reason I find it more shocking on the air than on the pro.

Plus, I have to say it, that leak? The one with the iMac colors, the white bezels and keyboard? It looked so much better than this. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was intended to be that way, but supply chain issues made it otherwise. Handling colors is a hassle.

And as for the rest? It’s unappealing too. The base SSD is slower. The small performance bump doesn’t justify the price hike at all. Even the new speakers, I feel like they’re worse somehow. I’m going to pull the trigger on a M1 MacBook Air base model, this machine seem perfect, and I’ve been eyeing it for way too long, and it was my mistake to wait for a new model.

On a sidenote, I hope, that one of these days, we will see the return of the 12 inch MacBook, as an SE. Put an M1 in there, and call it the MacBook SE, or the MacBook mini.
