Personal opinion: the “not marketing” representation of current gen MacBook Air should be M1.3.
It’s more powerful, yes. It has more gizmos. Yes. It can scale better. Not really.
Despite the upgrades on the SoC, the drawbacks of the SSD arrangement and the lack of enough cooling artificially slow down the device, and paying 20% more for the privilege. As the host said (kudos Johnathan), Apple is doing Apple, making pay for more when something better should arrive at the same price, or a notch less.
The base model should not exceed 1050 USD, the M1 should be price the current of the refurbished. If Apple is eager for a 1099, at least the fast charger with two USB-C ports should be standard.
But hey… Cupertino knows best how to be a monopolist, learned from the greatest (Big Blue… the one with three letters).

i think the m2 macbook pro is the go. it’s $100 more and it’s faster, with a better battery, keyboard and cooling system.

Im a med student and ended up having to upgrade just now. The M1 with the back to school discount ended up being around that 850 price point. So I got to get it brand new and got the option to splurge towards that 512ssd

Or you could get a framework/windows laptop and upgrade the m.2 ssd if it is slow or inevitably fails. Crapple.

My question is, what if you play games? Like you said, there is war thunder avaible. I’d imagine gaming would suddenly become shit after hitting the thermal limit.

I do occasionally render videos, so there’s no way I could live with a fanless machine. I use Macs Fan Control to punch my fans up to 100% when I’m rendering on my M1 Mac Mini, and I get very reasonable render times.

I wanted to buy the M2 but it was way to expensive. So I doubted a lot, then my work gave me an option to get a M1 MacBook Air. And really it is great, the battery life is amazing. I think if I ever buy a laptop for myself again it will be the lower end model. But most like,Ty my job will just give a other laptop

I think MAC address is the only apple focused YouTube channel I’ll be recommended. Jonathan does not bow to apple, it’s filmed wonderfully, the pacing is great and the points are sharp. it’s refreshing in a space where YouTubers are falling over each other trying to explain to us why apples mistakes/bad decsions/poor design choices/lack of innovate are really genius that we failed to see. The apple silicone is genius, the base SSD choice is not a great design decisions, the lack of heat dissipation here is also a poor design decision,. Thank you!

My question: how did you get that shot from the pond at 8:27? I go to school at the campus you shot at and there’s nothing to stand on where the camera was. Was someone standing in the water??? Great video!
