I dont normally even consider thinking about anything Mac, but the apple silicon has me intriged. The Pro Ones specifically since i edit alot of videos, though I cant and probably wont be able to afford most apple products for quite a while so its just amazing watching Apple Silicon’s first steps. (and boy are they leaps and bounds in efficiency)

I got an M1 base model Air earlier this year, and I fully contend that is the best laptop Apple’s ever made. Right price, great specs, great form factor. I traded in a loaded out 16″ Macbook Pro 2019 for it – i9, 32 GB of ram, 2 TB of storage. The Air absolutely SMOKED that thing, even in heavy workloads like Resolve exports. I wound up giving it to a friend and getting my own 16″ M1 Pro (which I love even more!), but if anyone asked me which macbook to get if you’re on a budget or for a first mac, I would recommend the M1 Air in a heartbeat.

How come the Macbook Pro M1 version is so much faster than the M2 version? Is the new Macbook Pro not actively cooled?

I bought a M1 Air around half a year ago and never regretted it, great machine! Only the 8GB RAM is getting full rather quick, but that’s just a minimal downfall, at least currently.

I’m glad the M2 is being addressed, especially with a focus towards students. I’ve been working at my college store and the M2’s kinda had me baffled. Pro vs Air was easy with M1, but now with M2 the differences make them two very different beasts, which still compete with M1. To make things worse, while Johnathan recommends the SSD upgrade, the Air and Pro are the same price for the 512 SSD. Though most students I’ve interacted with since we got the M2’s prove, the M1 is Air is still the best price. I kinda wish the education store was brought up though, which adds a $100 discount on the Air’s and 13″ Pro. It even covers the adds the discount on the refurbished store.

I have always had a dislike for apple and during the the iphone 6-7 era i really started to hate the company seeing my friends paying super premium prices for phones that didn’t even do stuff well and limited how they could use and download apps( I think that apple is even worse value proposition in none English speaking parts of the world). Now to present time I work as a teacher at a “appleschool” ( so we are using apple producs for everything we can) the computers most of the staff uses is the 2019 MacBook air. Most use cases like connecting to the SMART board and doing presentations worked OK. But then the VIRUS hit. And this is where apple got the name crapple amoung the staff. Those paperweights they call computers were and is so useless that I started to use a asus ultrathin laptop from 2011 that my wife had left in a moving box in the cellar because it was to old and the crapbook air couldn’t record and be in a teams meeting while sharing screen at the same time. Even if you say that the 2019 were running hot and slow compared to M1 and M2. How can apple make those products sell them so freaking expensive (atleast 300$ more than the asus). While not losing all trust?

The thing is that even if you don’t do any heavy work, you’ll still notice the SSD because of the fact that Apple uses the SSD as a substitute for RAM, even when the RAM isn’t full. It’s fine on the M1 model even though it chugs very slightly, but on an M2, it’s going to be quite bad.

I want the m2 air for the design. Everyone says “its too expensive just get the pro” but the biggest thing that draws me to the air is it has no fan. Dust has been my mortal enemy for years so finally getting a laptop with no fan that has this power is amazing, but the m2 has such a better design compared to the m1 it’s such a dealbreaker how bad value it is.
