This is such a trip down memory lane for me! I’ve got to let rip here. I had:

iPhone 3G (black – there was a white version available but didn’t look great). Got one just a couple of weeks after launch in 2008. Spent the next few years trying – with mixed success – to tell people to get one instead of a Blackberry because the two phones weren’t even in the same ballpark. I wanted an iPhone 4, but I was waiting for the white version. By the time that happened in early 2011, I thought it was too close to the June release date so I decided to wait for the 4S. Then the Tohoku Earthquake happened and the 4S was delayed until September 2011.

iPhone 4S (white). Loved it.

iPhone 5 (black). First iphone with 4G, but the speed/reception wasn’t great.

iPhone 5S (white). Much better 4G, but the Touch ID was spotty as hell!

iPhone 6S (black). Much improved Touch ID.

iPhone 7 Plus (matt black). Maybe my favourite iPhone ever. Loved the colour and the ability to do touch payments. It felt massive, but the regular 7 didn’t have a zoom lens so had to get the plus.

iPhone X (black). Wanted that OLED display, all screen display and Face ID. Actually didn’t like it at first though: I missed the size of the iPhone 7 and found Face ID to be a little less convenient than touch. I still do. I want a fingerprint sensor in the power button in future. Never even crossed my mind to get a XS because that was a Weak upgrade.

iPhone 12 Pro (pacific blue). Loved the ultra wide lens and nightmode on every camera, which is what stopped me getting an iPhone 11. My iPhone X was showing its age, so it felt like a huge speed upgrade. Disappointed not to get 120hz screen though.

iPhone 13 Pro Max (grey). I resisted at first because it didn’t seem like a big change, but then I clocked how much of an upgrade the camera got! Macro mode! Finally! Plus a more powerful zoom lens and cinematic video. Also, you don’t need to go into portrait mode to get portrait style shots – it just kind of does it on the regular camera. I’m loving the bigger screen and high refresh rate, too. My criteria for upgrading is that I need to get a different experience each time, which you don’t always get year to year. This has been one of the biggest upgrades I’ve ever felt, which is amazing considering that last years one was so good.

(If I sound like an Apple fan boy, it’s because I am one. I don’t hate Android. In fact, while I’ve been getting these iPhones, I’ve also tried just as many androids. While they are nice, they never work quite as well as an iPhone. There’s always some jankiness or compatibility issues or lack of software updates etc. I’m also not rich; I always sell my old iPhone for the best possible price to minimise the outlay of getting a new one. Usually costs just a couple of hundred dollars to upgrade, which is not bad when you consider I use my phone for literally everything and check it hundreds of times per day. It’s all part of the fun for me! Thank for reading my long-winded spiel!)

The first iPhone couldn’t text pictures … that was the worst thing about it

the iPhone 3 was a great upgrade except for the screen shattering if you even breathed on it

happy to say my i went from 3g to 4s to 5s to iphone SE and now SE 2020 (even tho the SE 2020 has horrible battery life, thats why im thinking about iphone13)
