If they are using the old Air for base iPad, I doubt they will switch out the lightning port to usb. Also it uses 1st gen Apple Pencil so needs it and doesn’t have flat sides for 2nd gen pencil.

Are you serious, do want want the Government dictating to private businesses?
We are a Constitutional Republic run by our people through elections, not some European Socialist group.
The Government almost never does anything but destroy creativity and slow down progress
through bureaucratic blundering ,l at our expense.
Apple should be able to innovate or not as they will.

Government mandating USB C. What are they not telling us about USB C. Listen government wants nothing less than power and control. The fact that they are mandating a cable format is extremely suspicious to me about USB C. So yes what are they not telling us about it.

10,5” base iPad with a design of Air 3 (2019) / Pro 10.5” (2017) BUT with USB-C doesn’t make sense – no Apple Pencil would be compatible with it … the 1st gen charges via Lightning and the 2nd gen is magnetic.

They’ll just quickly update it in September with the 10,5” design and Lightning – and that will be the last iPad with Home Button.

The following one will be basically in a body of the new Air design … but no M-series processor (A15 most likely) – therefore no Stage Manager / external display support
