Honestly M1 MacBook Air already doing pretty well as M2 MacBook Air actually limited by thermal throttling due to M2 actually uses more TDP and has too much components in one chip that makes it easily heat up, and slower SSD chip on lowest model.

It’s honestly like:
M2 MBA < M1 MBA < M1 MBP < M2 MBP < M1 PRO MBP < M2 PRO MBP < M2 MAX MBP (skip M1 MAX MBP) If you want to buy a new MacBook lineups, with M2 MBA lowest and most suitable for most users and M2 MAX MBP for Pros
