is buying a MacBook air m1 8GB ram today, future proof(at least for 5 years) ?? i mean, can a mac os upgrade come in the future where having a 16 GB of ram is mandatory or recommended? Thanks in advance

I have been here since your medieval era.
I’m unclear regarding purchasing a PC or LAPTOP under 1.5 lakh rupees for music production, video editing, and rarely casual gaming.
By checking the GPU performances of the PC & the LAPTOP, there is much less difference. Still, the CPU performances may differ to some extent.
Please give some of your insights while purchasing a PC or LAPTOP.
As some sales will be going On online & offline, your information regarding PC build or LAPTOP specs would be precious, and it would be helpful for a lot of friends 🙂

I recently went with m1 16gb ram and 512gb hard disk and it costed me around 1.25L INR after student discount(could’ve gotten additional 10k off if I had hdfc card). I would still say it’s bang for my buck since my primary usecase would be lightweight workloads and moderate programming. The main reason why I didn’t go for m2 is because of the ssd issue which makes 512 gb disk a minimum requirement for me. Also, 8gb ram used to be alot in 2015 but nowadays and considering that I have to use this laptop for next 5 years, 16gb ram becomes a no brainer. Adding all these things bumps m2 cost to around 1.5L which is way too much for a laptop in my opinion.

M2 Air has issues with 256GB SSD read/write speeds compared to M1 Air.
There are also reports of throttling and heating up in some cases.

Go for M1 Air with 8gb ram, 256gb ssd if you are a student & with 16gb ram, 512gb ssd if you want professional use.

If you do a lot of performance intensive workloads, the M1 pro MacBook pro 16″ with 16gb ram, 512gb ssd is a better option.
Do note that you cannot upgrade ram in India once purchased, but you can always use an external SSD to bump up flash storage which is a cheaper option.

I would say M2 is good if your like first time macbook buyer and have the budget
If you don’t have budget M1 Air is the way to go

i recently bought M1 Mac air
For approx 69k and it is really worth that price
I am very happy for the purchase
And for someone who uses laptop plugged in all the time this will be really different experience
Because it almost feels like phone
Both in terms of battery and also when laptop is in sleep mode and turning on
This is very fast
It is just like locking and unlocking your phone 😅
I really enjoyed it
