The Ars article about Apple allowing some apps to bypass firewalls means this will always be a no go for me. Bad enough I have to block telemetry in Windows 10.

Although it’s good for consumers when company A and B have to compete, I worry that there are broader implications with creating an end to end closed ecosystem as Apple has now done.

Tens of reviews… and no one mentions the possibilities to (not?) run Windows. Bootcamp is dead but does Parallels run at any acceptable speed?
Update: from Parallels website: “A new version of Parallels Desktop for Mac that can run on Mac with Apple M1 chip is already in active development.”. So better wait until that is complete if you need to run Windows.

How do you think this model would do for live-streaming? I use a Sony ZV-1 attached to the Elgato HD60+ and ecamm live plus proclaim worship software for lower thirds and videos. I send one stream to BoxCast who distribute it. It’s about a 45min stream. My current Mac fans come on and interfere with the audio of the livestream so I wondered about this silent Mac.

Not sure how much Chrome you used in tests/usage but I see Google has released the M1-optimised version of Chrome already. Early reviews all concluded battery life much worse using Chrome than Safari (expected) but not sure the difference the optimised version has.

It bothers me that you and other reviewers complain that that the outside is the same as the previous models, and that bothers me greatly. We force creators/developers to spend often unnecessary effort and money just to make something pretty instead of better functionality and performance Buying something looks different doesn’t mean that it is better or meets the actual needs of the purchaser in the long-run. That is why people get taken in by inferior knockoffs. I know that I am possibly one of the few these days that feels this way, but after hearing this as a knock on the latest M1 products is tiring for me.

Apple first gen devices are getting much more compelling. It’s obvious they’ve iterated on this for years to get it to this point. I hope intel steps up to. Competition.
