I’ve use MacBook Pro 13” 2017, base model. And now I switched to M1 MacBook Pro 13”. It is a beast machine, but yeah there will be some compatible issue with dev environments (I can’t use VM and install Linux for development with NixOS). Other than that, it’s frickin fast and the fan didn’t even come off once. Only when compiling big project.

That said, I’m still disappointed with the SPEAKER quality. Lack of bass and high frequency. I mean, I can tell the difference when compared to my old MBP 2017. Apple really did this on purpose without telling, and to be fair they didn’t even mention the speaker quality on the keynote either. I should’ve know better

I never liked the touch bar, mostly due to lack of ESC key, but seeing that they’ve now re-added the ESC key I might get on board again. Has anyone got any use for the touch bar or is it just in the way? I know personally I barely look at my keyboard, too much muscle memory, and the touch bar doesn’t work very well with muscle memory.

I bought the MacBook Pro 13 with an M1. I’ve had the same experience. The hardware is amazing quality. I don’t think anything else comes close in that department.

The issue i have with it is that I don’t like MacOS still. MacOS holds it back in my opinion, but I’m primarily a windows user in the past. I use Windows for work as well, and that will probably always be the case. I hate switching back and forth between OS, as the keybindings are all different and muscle memory is screwed up.

Also for the 13, the screen is too small for developers, or at least for me to be most productive.

Maybe Apple should start selling its chipsets to other computer vendors. I think it is the only way Intel, in particular, is ever going to move to ARM. Linus Torvalds is ready to the Linux kernel to ARM.

I’ve used the MacBook Pro M1 for two weeks and then iPad Pro M1 12.9” for two weeks. For my daily use, i prefer the iPad Pro. The biggest benefit from MBP is the battery life. The biggest benefit from the iPad pro is versatility.

I choose the iPad Pro 12.9” because I prefer to read books off a tablet than a laptop screen. The day when I need Xcode, I’ll just settle for a Mac Mini because I would prefer to have a desktop set up to comfortably work for hours.

For now I just needed something to replace my 2011 Lenovo laptop and I noticed the iPad Pro is the perfect fit. Able to use all MS Office products on the go for work and then comfortably read books during my free time.
