I just got this laptop a couple of months ago. I’ve owned several MacBook Pros as well as a couple of MacBook Airs over the years and this one, by far, is definitely the most impressive.
Watching this on my new purchased MacBook Pro M1 13
Hey, I am a big fan of Ubuntu, thinking to buy a new laptop? Just want to know whether you still recommend Macbook Pro M1? or is there any better options for ubuntu which has long-lasting battery life? so I don’t compromise with OS
I really can’t wait for the m2 air and pro to come out , I was originally planning to buy a m1 pro this year but kinda got more hyped hearing m2 is coming out
anyone know the wallpaper in the thumbnail?
I am considering getting an M1 if it had support for Linux, because of its power and efficiency, but there are some things that I think are issues:
– Repairs and upgrades- basically none. To repair it, you need to take it to a professional and get expensive parts replaced. As I own a ThinkPad, I can open it up and macguyver a fix for basically any problem, and use it for the rest of the week in school before considering a more permanent solution (not that this happens often because of its reliability)
-Planned obsolescence- Apple is notorious for this- If I pay over 3k CAD for a computer, it would be nice for it to last at least 6 or 7 years.
My Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon gen 1 is still going strong after 10 years, over 10000 hours of use. It surprisingly holds up well in modern applications, with an i7, 8gb RAM, and an SSD it feels really snappy in everyday tasks, and even runs the very demanding things I work on, like the AI computer visions applications and data analysis. The MacBook my dad got in 2015 for about the same price this was in 2012 is unusable with mac os, but is somewhat usable with Linux installed on it. You can’t revive on old M1 Mac with linux in the future, unless they implement linux support.
– Cost: it costs about 2x as much as gaming grade devices with similar power, and with my limited budget as a high school student experimenting with AI stuff, that’s kind of a problem
Other than that, I think the M1 Mac is an amazing computer. The thought of high power with high efficiency is epic to me, as my laptop battery lasts about 1 hour and 30 minutes on a good day, the fan goes like a jet turbine under any load more than 2 chrome tabs and spotify, and a few times the CPU temperature has exceeded 100 degrees C, and the keyboard has reached over 50 degrees under long stretches of programming or video editing, at which point I needed to put it in the fridge.
it is time for me to get a new computer, and I would get an M1 MacBook pro if it had linux support and was a few hundred dollars cheaper, or I will probably settle for a mid tier gaming laptop, as the market right now is too bad to buy parts to build a PC
Tensorflow is not working for some reason
Hey anyone knows how to run asp.net web application on m1 processor? i tried to run it using Jetbrains Rider. But it didn’t work. If someone knows, please reply.
I got the 8gb ram and 512gb ssd version. I was thinking about going with air as the 14′ was way out my budget so the 13′ pro and the air were the only option for me. So, as I am a CS student and developing app and coding is an important task for me which can be hard on the cpu, so I got the pro with the fan. Coding with this beast has been a blast, and I really love the battery life. I will still recommend everyone to get the air if you don’t have the extra cash for 14′ pro. Although CS students should still get the 13′ pro as the fan is a big deal for that particular workload.
Have you compared the 13” Pro with the 14”?
I like the efficiency some apple products can bring to the table. I dont like Apple
what watch u wear?😂
Biggest technology jump of the late 2010s
Thanks for this. I’m not confident with my purchase (item is on the way) before I watch your video. Your review made me super excited about my purchase (Macbook pro m1 of course). I’m actually deciding between m2 Macbook pro/air but i still choose m1 macbook pro because of the far cheaper price compared to the need to upgrade ssd to 512. Did I made a wrong decision? Nope! Thanks to your video
Anyone kindly reply, is app compatibility issues solved now? Almost 2 years passed that M1 MacBook Pro
daaamn 9:05 your prediction was soo good here!!
I’m a macbook pro fan. A macbook air fan is an oxymoron.
I’ve had the M2 MBP 13″ for a week now. It is absolutely the best, most comfortable laptop I’ve ever had. And I’ve had a few. I am a 65 yo retired physicist.
6 month = long term
